Help identify this gun

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture so you'll have to do it by description alone.

I was watching an old "Magnum" episode the other night. Magnum was working on a ranch on the Big Island and he and another guy got into a shootout with the bad guys. Most everyone had an M1A, however the guy with Magnum had something I hadn't seen before.

It was a pump action rifle, but was fed by a large detachable magazine. By size I would say probably 20 rounds of .308 or 30-06. Now, I've always found "Magnum" to be surprisingly accurate in their use of firearms; using actual weapons in actual calibers. So, is this a real gun or a Hollywood creation?

Remington made a pump rifle, in centerfire calibers, and i suppose someone could have built a large cap. magazine for one. I wish you had a picture.

Just about any gun with a detachable magazine can be fitted with a larger one, presuming the mag maker can get the thing to fit and feed reliably.

If it was a hunting style rifle, you were probably seeing a back lot special. If it was military looking, like an SKS or whatever, maybe not.

There were/are some very nasty looking shotguns with snail drum magazines, too. Maybe the Hollywood types just mocked up a rifle version. I think one was called the Streetsweeper.

I don't trust Hollywood to accurately portray firearms in any film/TV show. I'm sure everyone here can come up with many different scenarios of unrealistic examples.

There was a 20 shot mag made for the 760. They could also just make up a mock mag by welding up some pieces.

Hammerless pistols with the sound of the hammer being cocked and weapons with no magazine in the mag well.

I'm going to go back and watch it again. I'm thinking it was a 760, especially with a big magazine available.

I know what you mean about Hollywood and guns. In my own book I may have stretched what was doable a bit for the sake of the story, but sometimes these guys just pull stuff right out of their.......hat. But Magnum has so far (my wife gave me the series on DVD for Chistmas) seemed to be pretty factual regarding guns, maybe as a result of Tom Selleck's influence.
