House Buys $200M Jets for Lawmaker Travel

Quote:

The Air Force had requested one Gulfstream 550 jet, which cost about $65 million. But the House Appropriations Committee added another $132 million to the 2010 Defense appropriations bill for two more jets, and "specified that they be assigned to the D.C.-area units that carry Members of Congress, military brass and top government officials," Roll Call reported.
It was just last year that lawmakers sharply criticized the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for traveling to Washington by private jet for a hearing about a bailout of their companies.

Early this year, we just finished a new hanger at Andrews Air force base. It is HUGE! It has office space, kitchens, and showers so that the "staff" will be quite comfortable while waiting for a call. I thought that it was for combat aircraft in case of a encroachment on DC's airspace. I was told by someone I will not name, that this was incorrect. "Fighters do not need this much space."
It still is empty, although staffed.

Wanna guess how many bays are in this brand-spanking new boondoggle of taxpayer money?:

That's right! THREE!

I have one of the U.S. Border Patrol caps shown on that page. I don't wear it though.

And Congress spanked the automobile executives when they showed up in D.C. in THEIR private jets to ask for bailout money....

200 million would of feed alot of hungry kids here. They need to ride the bus, and listen to the grievances, while they tear them apart. Is any body fed up yet, or do you want some more?

I'm surprised they bought Gulfstreams and not BBJ's.
