Your right it does give the antis ammo and make us gun owners look bad. I think our best bet is to try and educate the folks that are anti and folks that are neutral on the subject. knowledge is power!!

I read the shooter's entries on his blog that was posted by ABC News. He was definitely planning this incident for a while. It was eerie reading his thoughts through his own print and seeing what was clearly a warped mind attached to a lighted fuse. The question was, didn't anybody read his ramblings before this all happened?

Yeah, this one was very sick and very premeditated.
It's rough for this one. Carrying in a gym is, from a purely utilitarian standpoint, rather difficult. You could keep a firearm in your locker or car, but that's not going to do you a lot of good if something like this happens.
He had pistols. Hmm...no law was gonna stop him. It's an unfortunate reality that someone absolutely determined to harm others is exceedingly difficult to stop.
The best I can come up with is the usual notion that, in a place like this, armed and properly trained employees could have helped stop him.
carrying,in a gym from a utilitarian view point is easy.
i use a water bottle belt, with a top zippered pouch.
it around my waist/beside me or hanging on a hook while in the shower.

You know, I never see anyone at 24 Hour Fitness with one of those. Not a bad idea at all.
