A Freedom of Speech Issue That Affects All of Us

Read this link and see if you are as appalled as I am:

Post a Hunting Photo, Go to Jail

Long story short: a 69 year old hunter and sportsman made a couple of movies about dogs; one on how catch dogs are trained, and the other about the history of fighting pit bulls. (Disclaimer: I have not seen the movies.) The Humane Society of the United States, no friend of sportsmen or shooters, took exception to this and persuaded a US prosecutor to have the man arrested and tried. He was convicted. He appealed. The conviction was overturned. Now it goes to the Supreme Court.

If this conviction is upheld, it could easily mean the end of outdoor magazines as we know them. It would assuredly put The Outdoor Channel out of business. And all in the name of political correctness, because the Humane Society of the United States doesn't like a couple of movies.

If the Supremes are smart, they will refuse to hear the case and let the lower court ruling that overturned the conviction stand. God above alone knows what will happen if this case is heard by the Supreme Court.

I feel this is a clear cut First Amendment issue and the Humane Society of the United States should be told where to head in. But with the current political atmosphere... I just don't know.

It's a completely idiotic case. I hope the supreme court throws it out. If i understand the article correctly it seems it is / will be illegal to show a photograph or video of a game animal being taken or hunted in one state, if it is illegal in another. Does that make sense? it seems so insane I must have missed the something. eg. take a picture of yourself hunting deer in tennessee, and some jack a$$ from california (just as an example) could bring charges.

well it's all in the link above.

I am sorry to say this is one of the main reasons I dislike the politically correct liberal crowd. They continue to try and errode our rights in everyway they can.
They say that they want to protect our rights and freedom of speech but then they go and do stuff like this.
It's frustrating to say the least. The Democratic party has been taken over by them and it's sad. They were once a party for the common person but they have lost touch with reality. I understand people have the right to object with hunting, fishing, and other outdoor sports but if you don't like it just don't participate in them and don't attack my rights to enjoy these activities.

The law in this case was signed into law by the liberal G.W.Bush. It was designed to stop the illegal dog fighting going on in this country. Now some pinheads are trying to expand the interpretation to include all animals, not just pitbulls. Thank your conservatives for this law also, not just the liberals.

True, and some fringies are trying to hijack it.

It'll never happen. Who here watches documentaries? Somehow I doubt SCOTUS will try putting The National Geographic Society out of business. Heck, this week is Shark Week on The Discovery Channel and I've seen plenty of seagoing animals being torn to pieces or severely injured, as well as sharks being tagged.

I blame the DA who was willing to take this to trial.

There is the REAL heart of the matter! Some lawyer that wants to get ahead in the political arena decides to trample freedom for the sake of personal gain.

Gee, it's not like that doesn't ever happen in Congress.

Another case of a poorly written law being poorly applied.

This could be another thread but somewhat associated. Bolivia bans all animals in circus.
La Paz (AP) -- Bolivia has enacted what animal rights activists are calling the world's first ban on all animals in circuses.
A handful of other countries have banned the use of wild animals in circuses, but the Bolivian ban includes domestic animals as well.
The law, which states that the use of animals in circuses "constitutes an act of cruelty", took effect on 1 July with operators given a year to comply, according to the bill's sponsor, Ximena Flores.

What will the animal rights activists say! constitutes a act of cruelty ! next????
