I have a new XD45 but haven't been to the range with it. The slide is extremely hard to pull back for dissassembly. I was at the store where I bought it today and tried anothe XD45 and the slide was much easier to operate. I'm up there in age but I'm still very strong. Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this on their XD45s. TIA

new spring vs those of a weapon that has been pulled by a lot of people maybe?

maybe ya just need to work it in a little (maybe make sure that its not completely dry inside first , especially if its been packed away for any amount of time)

Thanks for your reply. I thought about the spring being new but the XD still in the counter is new and it's much easier to operate the slide. Everyone in the store agreed it was strong and some thought the springs might be too long. Anyway I'll shoot a few rounds and see if it helps. I've also got a new Glock 30 that I haven't fired and 200 new rounds to start with.

they can field strip it at the store and compare springs but remember the one there has been a display and people have pulled that slide back many times.
the first thing you can do is take an old sock and use that to grip your slide with and work the spring a little ( the sock is to keep your hands from getting torn up while giving a better grip)

if after a while and the spring isnt closer to what you expect i would compare it to the store model

Thanks again Dan. This is a fairly small store and the XDs and Glocks move quickly. My XD had been on display for a few days about the same for the one on display now. I got a chance to talk to another XD45 owner and he said his slide was hard to pull at first but after he fired about 500 rounds it was much improved. I need to get to the range but temperatures have been in the hundreds for over a week.
I have a pair of deerskin gloves that I use when cycling the slide......works! Thanks

Steve I've haven't had a chance to go to the range yet but I've been cycling the slide with a glove on. It's either getting lighter or I'm growing stronger

from all the work cycling. The only outdoor range is about 25mi. round trip and it's either been too hot or it rains. Part of the road is clay and when it gets wet it's a mess. We have an indoor range here but they charge a flat rate of $12 whether you shoot for an hour or all day. I'll post any improvement after I've fired a hundred rounds or so.

My XD 45 had a hard time racking the slide when I bought it in 2007. After about 200 rounds it became alot easier.

I think it is better to be too strong prior to break-in, than to end up loose and sloppy.

My XD9mm is just about like BOHICA described his to be. Glad to learn from others that this is normal...and should become easier to rack the more it's used.
