MOLLE or ALICE ?

I was getting ready to put together a bugout kit an I cant decide to go with the MOLE or ALICE gear. I have had alice gear in the past and like it but there are some MOLE setups i like too. What does everyone here use for most of their gear?

Well, it is not so much what I or anyone else likes

Take time to determine what "fits" you the best even if it is a close call.

That is what matters.

MOLLE gets my vote.

But nathangdad is correct in that you need to determine what will work best for you and your needs...

Alice gear is much cheaper nowadays, but I prefer the Molle mainly due to the versitility of where you can mount pouches (even loop them through a belt) and how much more secure the strap system is than the Alice clips.

I've had Alice clips bend and break, yet only on one Molle pouch did I have a snap break and I didn't even know it until a few months later when I took my Molle vest apart to clean it, it didn't even feel loose. Although you could midigate the Alice clip breakage by additionally tying a strip of 550 cord along side the clip.

I just got a new Marine Marpat digital medium assault pack off of Craigs List for 45.00. It has Molle every where. Four compartments with four added from an old army harness with the two metal push clips, that system attaches to Molle also. This gives a change of clothes, bath stuff, food and two US ammo pouches on each side, got a Molle med kit bag in the mail. I've strapped my 10 x10 camo tarp to one side of my bag and para cord to the other. At 14 " wide it carries like a breeze. Has room for a 2.5 liter H20 bladder. It weight 45 lbs.
Then a Marpat vest www.combathunting.com will take all the rest. Go Molle all the way!
Try Tactic Supplies - Home they have a three day pack too. I'm set.

working on a limited budget, i find what ever i can, i have a mixture of both molle and alice gear as well as civilian gear. i made an "urban b-o-b" using an over the shoulder book bag, it holds everything i need in an urban enviroment including a change of cloths, first aid kit, h2o purification and fire strarting, cards and dice, and other items...

but like the others have stated use what ur comfortable in...

Okay, I will admit to it, I don't know the difference here. I guess I skip that section of my CTD catalogs. I was under the impression that it was just velcro straps to customize your packs, am I close?
I was thinking of getting some kind of vest with pouches, but I am not tactical enough in my gear to use what I have seen effectively; I am still in a 'fanny pack' mode (man does that sound embarrasing!).

Molle all the way for me. If you get quality pouchs they will last a real long time i use to hang my I.B.A by a pouch and the pouch never tore or became disfigured. Just my 2 cents. Here is a pic of my molle setup

This is an expanded view of MOLLE (Modular Light Load Bearing Equipment). It uses heavy duty snap straps to attach the components to a MOLLE vest and/or protective vest. Like ALICE, the user can tailor his/her ensemble according to his/her needs.

This is a typical example of a MOLLE ensemble (Below).

Image of the M-1956/67 ALICE harness and minimum standard load.

Below is an image of an ALICE (All Purpose Individual Loadbearing Equipment) pack commonly called an ALICE pack. Like MOLLE, it uses an optional frame as the heart of the pack. I personally think it is the best field pack out there.

I prefer the British Pattern 58 webgear because it has lots of storage space and is very cheap. Also the South African Pattern 70 webgear is pretty useful too if you're carrying a weapon with .308 size magazines.

Nice, that actually looks far better than what I pack now! I may have to wander over to Walmart today to take a look!

I am a really lightweight packer, and most generally I have a water bottle, a snack in my pocket and my rifle, a fanny.. er waistpack, is the most I drag along with me. I have been looking at the ultralight packs and my favorites are the Osprey lines, but I can't justify $140 for a pack that looks... girly, for lack of a better term. I have thought I should look at one of the MOLLE style breathable vests and add some pouches, but everything I have had a chance to handle is supposed to hold a half dozen 30 round AR magazines and a pistol - just not style (yet).

It seems that the MOLLE type is flexible enough and the most popular, but is the quality of the basic stuff on CTD worth it?

the molle gear i have, has come form CTD... my vest, my wifes vest and assorted pouches they are good quality and work just fine... but that is my experience, i've had no problems. i think ive done some reveiws there too...

my vest i have adapted to be a shotgun vest i made holders for the shells that fit into two of the ar mag. pouches on vest and the other mag pouch holds the 90degree military light, so they are versitile if ya get one... my wifes vest came with an extra 2 pouch mag set up that would go where the handgun goes on the stomach section of the vest, so we set it up that she carries the extra mags for the carbine and her handgun on her belt just in case she has to ditch the vest she will still have a sidearm.

Thanks for the input on the subject from everyone. I am looking at something like the set up that Trustnoone has but with a bandolier and belt instead of the vest.
