i thought it was decided.
we have courts to deal with these issues.

It was,the Supreme Court will hear the case in October. One of the bigger issues involving this case is about land ownership and public use.If you look into this the land was donated to the Park Service. When this issue came up the original owners I believe offered to trade some ground so the cross could stay. Then the ACLU got to yapping and things went to h*ll very quickly.Vote how you like, the courts will decide.Be interesting to see where the new justice stands on this.
not my understanding , a park ranger in the early 2000's discovered the cross and reported its erection on public land , wanting to know if it was authorized, from their, factions split, and now its in the court system. i don't know anything about how the aclu got involved.
i have no more interest in how the new justice votes then the more senior ones.
but i would like to read the reasoning of the court.
It's hard to find anything meaningfull about this case. All the information is mostly partisan and very conflicting as to cause.According to one article the Park Service is calling it a war memorial and the other side says it violates the establishment clause making it a land usage case. What is rather interesting is apparently the U.S.Solicitor General is defending the Park Service. One article said oral arguements were to be in July.Wonder if a transcript is available online anywhere?
I wonder if the ACLU would fight for my rights to be reminded that this country was founded on CHRISTIAN beliefs, not muslim and not buddist, etc. Probably not as I'm white, have a job, vote, and pay taxes!
Before anyone jumps down my throat, by Christian beliefs I mean our laws are based on Christian ideals, not Christian religion.
i want the courts to decide, based on the issue, land use or war memorial.
i don't want them to use christian or muslim beliefs, just do their job and forget it.

That is the way it should be determined. The so called "establishment clause" is being used by many groups as an excuse for all kinds of court action on things like this which have nothing to do with the government officially sanctioning one religion to the exclusion of all others.
It's downright pathetic that someone would want to remove that cross. That's all I got to say about that.
sure, but someone else may say, a man made object should not spoil the serenity of the area. permits may be required. it's public land.
i don't care either way, never saw the cross, just read the old news articles on the net. but i like having a process that can handle these issues.
knightrider, what is the right way? the way it should be? much more important, why is it the right way?
I live in the city and my next door neighbor has a very small cross in his front yard in the flower bed next to the house...several weeks ago a woman was walking by .... walking her dog that craps all over everyone's lawn....and she commented to him that the cross offended her...he is a fairly gentle man but he really told her off....Upshot....I'm gonna get one for my flower bed as well. Man why don't people just leave well enough alone.
The cross is a memorial put up by World War I vetereans to honor those who didn't come home. The Park Service calls it a war memorial because that is what it is.
The lawsuit, on which the ACLU quickly jumped on, was brought by one individual from Oregon who has never actually seen the cross but has stated that he may be offended by it in the event that someday he may drive by it and see it.
Congree was offered land equivalent to about three+ times the size of the area in which the cross is erected and they refused to accept the trade.
Simply another slap-in-the-face to veterans by the ACLU and the US congress; take down a monument emplaced by Americans for Americans all because one man in rural Oregon may see it one day and be offended. B---S---!

Good for you!
Ya might put up a little sign that says "If this cross offends you, walk your dog elsewhere".
Here's an idea...get all your neighbors to put little crosses in their flower beds too...Make a statement.
Next time you see her dog crap on your lawn, go out and make her pick it up...no bag? Oh well she can put it in her pocket. I'd bet there is a city ordinance that will back you up...LOL that would be such a funny thing.
