Thumbs up New handgun today!

I was at the range earlier today, and one of my friends came limping up. He broke his foot at work - Ouch! What to do while laid off for a few weeks - shoot, of course!
He is a wheeler-dealer type, and had a nice old Star Super in 9mm Largo. Well, I shot it and he offered a good price - $100 - so now it's mine. On disability pay, he's trying to scrounge up some money.
Now, I gotta find a source for 9mm Largo ammo. The local shop has some Blaser aluminum-case stuff for $15/box - I'll surf the net and find some good reloadable stuff and dies. He said there is a place selling it by the 1000-round case - gotta find out who.
I like the extra oomph compared to the 9mm Luger, and it's similar enough to my Colt that getting used to it will be easy.
I didn't realize til I got home - this gives me the start of a nice Spanish collection. Three rifles - Mauser M43, Mauser FR8 and the Cetme - and now a good service pistol to go with 'em.

I think I saw 9 mm largo dies listed in a Huntington catalog a year ago. Speer 13th ed has loads for 115 gr and 124 gr jacketed. Also called 9 mm Bergmann-Bayard. They say a 9 mm Luger will fire in it but STRONGLY recommend that this NOT be done because headspacing is wrong. Apparently 9x23 win will chamber also but WILL DESTROY the gun if fired. Starline may have cases. Good luck.

Lyman Pistols and Revolvers Hanbook (2nd ed.) has some 9mm Largo load data. I believe that Speer #13 does as well, but I'm sure about the Lyman.

A buddy of mine bought some European Largo ammo a number of years ago; I believe it was surplus (?). At any rate, he was disappointed. He was planning on using the cases for reloading, but it was Berdan primed, which was not prominently advertised. Caveat emptor.

Shotgun news has it in there. I own a 9mm Largo Star and I think they are great. They are what a 9mm should be.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info, guys. Pumpkinheaver - "DOH!" I totally forgot about my Blue Press catalogs! I knew I had seen the stuff somewhere.

I found a company online that sell it by the 1000 and 2000 round cases, but it is the berdan-primed surplus. That'll get me started shooting, til I can get set-up to reload.

I heard that about shooting 9mm Luger too, but not in my shiny new gun!! I'll use the proper ammo.
