I figure this could run for 2-3 months to give everyone a chance to get out in the timber and give the leaves a chance to fall so we can actually see the little tree huggers! I figure Sept 1 through Dec 1??? anybody thoughts? I think most states are in season during those times??? like TeeRex said, squirrel is already in here and will stay in for a long time!
Oh, and on a prize thing, I am working on that and will post more when I get some info back.
Dust off them .22's & oil them shotguns, we got us a compeeetition comin up! LOL

I sent several messages to Chris to see if he was interested in everyone donating like five bucks to the site and the winner getting a free 1 year membership and the rest donated to the site for operating expenses. Havent heard anything back yet? I thought it was a pretty good idea and would help to support this site, he gets pretty busy what with all the shenanigans in other sections LOL!
If he isnt interested or dont hear anything back pretty soon, I guess maybe we will figure out an alternative like with paypal or something?
September 1 is getting close! Dove comes in here sept 1... and I will be in heaven!
Thank god hunting season is officially starting!!!

Iowa's Squirrel season starts Sept. 5th. Note that while I'll be doing as much hunting as possible, I won't have too much of a haul. But I'd be glad to report in with what I have.

ArkansasHunter, as long as you LEGALLY ran them over sure! No poaching! Everything sounds great, I like the idea of the Cabelas GC or the year membership! Can't wait to pop some tree rats!

AH... I suppose hunting with a chevrolet would count! However, hunting with foreign cars would not count LMAO!
IF you squish the tail they dont count as they would be altered! HA!

Sounds like this could be interesting, are there other categories like for coloring, bushiness... or only length?

We dont discriminate here at gun and game, so grey or red squirrel is fine, length is measured from the base of the tail where it joins at the butt basically and cut off even with the hiney. From the base of the tail bone where fur is * still visibly attached you measure to the tip of the longest fur past the tip of the tail. This fur MUST be attached to the tail and not altered for length.
SO... length of fur could come into play after the end of the tail and I think that willl be interesting OR... would you guys prefer to measure JUST the physical tail itself and have hair length NOT be a factor at all???
input please?
I suppose since I have not heard anything about a contribution to gun and game and winner getting a 1 year membership I will start looking into the whole paypal thing and we will do some sort of cabelas gift card. Does anybody know much about going about doing something like that? Maybe we should contact Cabelas, they may be interested in sponsoring an off beat hunting competition like this?
LOL we created a new hunting sport guys! Our mothers would all be so proud LOL

I suppose we should probably add a rule that prohibits catching a squirrel and putting it in a device to s-t-r-e-t-c-h its tail for a few months also!
Would giving the squirrel viagra count as steroids for this competition?
From the looks of Jerrys squirrel hunting methods the squirrels should be safe and he well rested! J/K
I suppose we should refrain from staking out yards where elderly folks put out them corn cob feeders too.
It will be interesting to see who wins the long tail award and also who gathers the most tails. Games will comence shortly guys get your camo ready and protect your nuts squirrels are worthy adversaries!
LOL all jokes aside I am looking forward to this and gives me another excuse as to WHY I need to go hunting more often to the missus!

Season opens tomorrow for us here in NH, and I have been seriously contemplating taking tomorrow off to "be there" at first light. Unfortunately, work load is a bit on the heavy side today. I may or may not make it for a morning hunt, but the evening is still wide open. We are experiencing unusually cool weather right now, it feels like mid-October. Pretty good for a walk-about with a 20ga.

The squirrel uses its tail for many things, its primary function is for balance. This enables the squirrel to maneuver quickly without falling. It is also used as a parachute, should the squirrel fall. It can act as a blanket in the Winter. Squirrels also use their tail to communicate with other squirrels.

We can all save our tails and send them to Mepps http://www.mepps.com/squirrel_tail_program/
For over 1000 tails we can get $.22 each. We could donate Mepps money!
