Is that the 4.3V6 Vortec you're rollin' Rider?
It's a 4x4 I assume.
This is what I keep in my truck (and every vehicle) I don't keep the quantities I'll list, but for a BOV you might need this much.
Spare belt
spare radiator hose
oil (enough for a complete change-out and 2 quarts extra)
2 gallons straight anti-freeze, 5 gallons water
extra fuses
2 cans brake fluid
A headlamp, and a 2-5 million candle power spotlight
Stop-Leak (for the radiator)
Tire Goo or Slime
ATF (I didn't see a gear shifter in the pics)
a few cans of HEET
A emergency jump booster
Air tank
Spare headlight bulbs
Hi-lift jack
4-way lug wrench
Jumper cables
window de-icer and scraper
spare fuel cans
Funnel
Lots of assorted zip ties and a spool of baling-type wire
(2) standard, phillips screwdrivers
(2) vice grips
socket sets (metric, standard)
wrench sets (metric, standard)
needlenose pliers, (2)adjustable-jaw pliers
assorted size hose clamps
multi-tool, and a sharp pocket knife
road flares
1st aid kit
Winter parka and bibs
sleeping bags
Shovel, axe, and good bowsaw (not a folding shovel, a good short handled 1)
Log chain at least 20'
tire chains if winters are harsh
kitty litter or something similar for traction if stuck in ice.
I'll probably think of more later, it sounds like a lot, but a toolbox holds it all nicely. I also have boxes mounted in the engine compartment for some items. old Ammo boxes work well, just bolt to the truck in a handy area.
I'm assuming you'll have BOBs well, with food, firestarters, and personal items.

If used in a SHTF situation, the biggest concerns will be overheating from strenuous use, losing a tire (or two), and damage to the radiator. Damage to the undercarriage is another concern...holes in fuel tank, transmission, oil pan. A couple of skidplates would help in that department.
Adding a topper shell would give you more water-proof storage, and shelter to sleep on the road.

Extra dry storage and a place to sleep (if needed) like thrillbilly said. That's why my BOV is my 4Runner. Enough storage, fold the back seat down and catch a nap.
Now, if I had your money I'd take the bed off and buy one of the beds electricians use. You know what I'm talking about. The ones with storage compartments everywhere.

There's a company that makes a fake floor for a pick-up bed. It's about 4-6" tall, and has a fullwidth drawer that pulls out. It's designed for rifles and other gear. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...entId=cat21412
I'd definetly put a topper shell on it, so you could sleep in it. A tonneu cover aint as versatile as a topper IMO. Rhino lining the bed is nice too, might as well hit the wheelwells while you're having it sprayed.
Seven and I were posting together...the idea of the utility bed is awesome, all the storage ya could ask for and still room in the middle for cargo...brilliant suggestion if ya have the cash for it.
Fleetwest, they have a cool slip on utility box that utilizes your factory bed. www.Fleetwest.net is the website http://www.central4wd.com/category.aspx?page=id%7C95249
these are Warn bumpers...stout, stout, stout! They are also expensive.
Rhino lining is tough to beat. http://www.rhinolinings.com/index.php
Offroad lights http://www.autoanything.com/lights/h...ad_lights.aspx http://www.kchilites.com/
Toppers http://www.leer.com/Truck_Caps
And just for the Awesomeness of it (this site has tons of cool stuff) http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/ar....jsp?id=399802 http://www.realtruck.com/?src=google...FRifnAodDAPvjg
LOL I have way to much time on my hands...it's Sunday and my wife is at work...I did go trout fishing for a hour or two.

My Tacoma has a factory bed liner. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I'd told the dealership to keep the bed liner and had Rhino sprayed in my bed.

Whatever ya put on, be sure and update us....I'm curious now. LOL my ol' truck is stock, I barely have the bread to keep gas in it. I can dream and plan though, that's why I had so many links available...I like to "fantasy shop".
A jackass kid ran over my truck back in Dec. He didn't have insurance (of course) and I'm just running liability. He was also drunk and on the Zanex monster, he managed to total two trucks in a parking lot. My Chevy is back on the road, his nissan is scrap. My Dad and I fixed it up to be driveable, but it looks like sh*t now. LOL my door is maroon, my truck is blue...need to Krylon Camo the h*ll out of it.
Here's a list of the punks stupidity
1. Driving drunk/high
2. Going 45-50mph in a parking lot
3. No insurance
4. No Drivers license
5. No license/registration on his truck
6. Had 3 minors in his truck (he's 18)
He's lucky the cops got to him first.

I know everybody else on this thread gave you a ton of ways to spend money our your SHTF truck. But, I'm not sure that is the best approach.
If you are driving that rig around before SHTF-day, you don't want to draw unnecessary attention from thieves. Perhaps, you might consider tinting the windows as allowed by the laws of your state and possibly installing a low key alarm. Other than that, I'd leave it stock.
If SHTF happens, you aren't going to change your name to Mud Pappa and start driving through deep mud holes. You are probably going to preserve your truck by driving very carefully.
If your truck is a daily driver, I'd also be very careful about keeping unattended firearms on board. Anyway, that's my two cents! Congrats on getting a cool truck and preparing it to your specs for a bad day.

| That is a nice plan you have there KnightRider. I had an '86 Ford F-150XL short bed with a 5-liter V8, 3-speed w/OD, 31x10.50 R15 AT tires, HD cooling system and electronic package, towing package, manual windows and rubber floorboards. I bought the truck new in '86 after I graduated from college and began my career in state law enforcement. It was my only transportation for many years until I got married 11 years later. The engine finally went out on me after 250,000 miles. That Ford stuck with me through almost two decades of hunting, hurricane evacuating and other emergency preparedness here along the coast; I guess I can't complain. The body is in good shape, breaks, front end, A/C, master cylinder, and all of the small stuff kept up. I could probably get a new engine for it, but the fuel mileage was never good and a smaller engine just wouldn't be the same. I'll probably let it go for a few hundred and look for something else. My next truck will probably be more in line with a Toyota Tacoma, 4-door, 4x4. With that, I can still carry a spare tire, basic tools, about 2-3 jerry cans of fuel, water, camp gear, packs, and even a small generator. Usually, during a hurricane evacuation, my wife and I take our pistols; a .38 special Smith & Wesson Model 64 revolver w/ 3 barrel for her, my .45 Springfield Armory 1911A1, and a 12 gauge. In the future, I might include my Mini-14 and some mags. All the other weapons stay locked in the vault until I return.

Heres my SHTF vehicle. It has 4x4 so I guess I can call it "supremely viable". I like the idea of the safe ill have to install one in there. Another preperation im working on is putting a bike rack on there so just in case it gets wrecked or something I will still have a bicycle. Now thats "supremely viable"
