She was breaking the law, got caught, and was given a ticket.
If she wants to sell lemonaide, get a permit, or keep paying the fine.
Maybe a warning would have been a better way to avoid bad press for the city, but still I say: to sell food you need a permit.
It would be like driving where you know the speed limit is 55mph, but you drive 100 mph, and then complaining when you got pulled over by a cop.
While I might not agree with the city's handling of this, I do have to say they was 100% correct that she was breaking the law. Her Dad should have taught her better by showing her how to follow the rules and getting the permit first.

Do you really believe those laws were written to regulate and control children who set up lemonade stands?
Hard to believe you think what she was doing is analogous to doing 100 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Well, maybe not a good analogy, but she was still breaking the law.
Remember, her father was selling with her, so it was not just "a kid selling lemonaide", but a kid and an adult selling cookies and lemonaide.

And their own boss said the agents used very poor judgment, and didn't properly enforce the rule.
It's kind of like writing a kid up for operating a non-street legal dirt bike on a public highway, because he crossed the road on his way to the hills. I see that happen now and then, and I think the officers who write those tickets are complete jerks.

The image of "Officer Friendly" that some of us might remember growing up to isn't even a myth or nice fairy tale for a lot of kids now.
I'm not saying that bad cops don't exist. I know better than that and knew better than that when I was a kid. One of the things that vexes me is that oftentimes people with personalities who have no business whatsoever in law enforcement are often the very people that are attracted to the prospect of carrying a badge. Add this factor to areas where there are critical shortages and there's a recipe for disaster.
All it takes is one bad experience with or about a cop to destroy any semblance of trust.

Followup! 10-YEAR-OLD CLEMENTINE LEE REOPENS LEMONADE STAND AFTER RECEIVING $50 FINE - New York Post
Not good for your side LeftHandShooter.
"The 10-year-old West Side girl who got a $50 ticket for selling lemonade in Riverside Park was back in business yesterday and had a special customer -- Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe.
Clementine Lee set up her stand in Columbus Circle, where Benepe bought three cups at 50 cents a pop.
'He was nice,' said the girl, who sold 80 cups, raising $40 for the World Wildlife Federation.
Meanwhile, the parks enforcement-patrol officer who gave the little girl the summons has been temporarily removed from enforcement and is being retrained in park rules and regulations."
Looks like a touchdown for common sense.
