More New York City Stupidity

Things turned out all right in the end, but this is the kind of absurdity/stupidity that New Yorkers have to put up with. Please note that the location of the little girl in question's home is in one of the richest locales in Manhattan.

I'm glad the gestapo put the squeeze on this and shut down the nefarious lemonade scheme. I know Cyrano and the rest of New York can sleep better at night because they did.

Perhaps she should have tried her hand at selling meth instead.

Rediculous, yes, but at least they were properly punished for what they did and the ticket was "nixed" to use their words.

So what do we learn from this? Often it's not the law itself, but the using the proper judgement of enforcement that can be the problem.

Kind of a stretch to tie Obama into a bust on a kid's lemonade stand, I'd say. That sort of overbearing, officious nonsense breaks out here and there all across the country, and always has.

I saw a news item about a woman in her eighties who received several threatening letters from her local Animal Control, demanding that she buy a license for the stuffed dog in her window.

Once is an honest mistake. 6 months worth of harrassing letters to an elderly lady is outrageous.

Agreed. Once she told them it was stuffed, they should either have taken her word or sent someone by to check.

Well, New York City certainly does not have a monopoly on officious minor bureaucrats and dumb enforcement officers. You folks in California have your share.

I received a speeding ticket in a local suburb here for doing 36 in a 35 zone. My arguement to the judge was my speedometer was in 5mph increments and I thought I was doing 35. $27 fine and I still refuse to go back to that suburb. I heard the officer had his radar gun taken away from him afterwards though. But still, 1mph over the posted limit??!?

A Building and Safety inspector I used to know in the City of Walnut, CA was stopped in his Ford Bronco by a cop who said, "I'll bet your speedometer said you were doing 35 mph, didn't it?"

When the inspector confirmed it, the cop told him, "yeah, I thought so. I have the same size tires on my Bronco. You were actually doing 38."

And he wrote him a speeding ticket....

And we in PA also, Cyrano. Officiousness is a personality trait unowned by states.
