Well, had the officer known he would be fired for doing it, I'm sure he wouldn't have done it.

I don't think it deserved him getting fired. Yes, he should have been severely reprimanded , but not fired.

The officer was just thinking with the wrong tool is all.

If you read the story, rather than stare at the photo, it stated that

"The deputies told Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter that they had about three to five beers each."

The fact that the deputies were at least buzzed, if not legally drunk, when they handed the waitress a rifle (maybe loaded, it had a mag in it) and had her poise on the trunk of a patrol car.

They showed poor judgement and with LEOs, poor judgement is a carrer killer.

Try going to your local Hooters with a group of your friends, having 3-5 beers, talk a waitress into poising with your AK on the hood of you jeep and see what happens.

Like I said, don't know the full story on him, he might have had it coming. We don't know his history or record, so we can't say what he did or didn't deserve. Considering the others there were just suspended, I would think this wasn't his first incident.

No, he was suspended because it was he who gave the chickaroo the gun and the gun he gave was his own "DUTY" weapon. That is why he was fired. The others were only suspended because they were there and so to speak, an "accessory to the fact".

FWIW, they weren't "on duty" strictly speaking, they were at a training seminar. I know when I was working for GM and Chysler dealerships, training seminars were analogous to PARTY TIME! We were sent out of town in a demo car with $200-$500 expense money to go hang out with other techs with the same thing on our minds-girls, beer, and fun. I'd be willing to bet that the only reason this guy got fired was because he got caught by the PC patrol, not because he actually did anything wrong.

Links from the Sheriff's department that state this? Whether or not it was his weapon, all the deputies that were there for the "photo shoot" were just as culpable. They should have all known better.

The 5th had been drinking on the job and was apparently unaware of what was going on outside or could at least claim that he was unaware and no one could say otherwise. The other three got suspended only and fourth got fired because it was his weapon? They were all in the same boat and I don't believe they'd just fire him alone because it was his weapon.

In Uniform, with a Police car and their service weapons...........sorry but these guys were "ON DUTY"!
If I attend a training seminar, drink and bring the company into disrepute, I'd get fired as well!! And I'm just lowly Oilfield Trash!

OK, I stand corrected, I know that you know the score as well. Uppity with a serious attitude issue. ("Issue" not a "problem"!)
