Colt 1911 Aficionado's - The Time is Almost Here...

Okay..., so I was just thinking... here it is 2009 almost 2010, and there ought to be some HUGE influx of Centennial Editions of the classic Colt 1911 in the works.

I haven't heard anything about this but I am sure there are more than a few manufacturers out there thinking about the big day, rubbing their grimy little hands together and I for one... can't wait to see what is in store for all of us aficionado's out there! I guess I better start saving my dollars now. Anybody heard anything about the big upcoming event or is this just all in my little pea brain? Maybe I should work for Colt or one of the many clone manufacturers out there.

Can't wait to see what the boys have on the drawing boards for the big Birthday Bash - The 100 Year Anniversary of the Colt 1911!!

Hard to say

If you are thinking about what little is left of the Colt Corporation then do not expect very much. It is hard to wrap your mind around the downhill slide of what once was a grand firm.

However, I do think a great deal of press will come from the firearms magazines.

I don't know. I have a Colt WWI repro in Carbonia Blue, a beautiful pistol. Wouldn't that be virtually the same as the 1911 issue? I seriously doubt they'll produce a 1910 version, since there were only 8 of those to begin with, considered prototypes. It's known as the Model of 1911, since that's when it was accepted by the military.

And the C/B WWI repros are out of production. They said they'd only make xxxx of them, and stopped when they hit that number. They're still making the same pistol, only with the Black Oxide finish and a different serial number suffix. I suppose they could change the suffix again, and go into production of the C/B finish again. Who knows.

Colt Royal Blue is the ultimate in gun blue in my opinion. Better than S&W, better than DW, better than any other I have seen.

Unfortunately, getting that incredible finish takes a whole lot of serious polishing and personal inspection for minor irregularities. That translates into a whole lot of dollars, presuming the old craftsmen are still around and their eyes are still good.

I love the idea, but I'm afraid the best we might expect is a Parkerized version, maybe based on the 1911 instead of the 1911A1. Something like the Springfield milspec item on the market now.

Oh HELL yes! If Colt offers a "commemorative" with this finish, I'm SO there! This is a C/B WWI repro that a guy on another forum sent to Colt for that Royal Blue finish. If I had one like this, I wouldn't know how to act.

The only thing I'd do to one like that, if I had one, would be to put Crimson Trace lasergrips on it and make it one of my 'go-to' guns. In the words of Daffy Duck, "Da-rool, da-rool!"
