The Mansfield gun show will be back at the Richland Co. fairgrounds Sept. 19-20. Bigger building, more vendors. Admission is still just 4.00 (free if you join the NRA or renew at the show). Hope to see y'all there.
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but.. I have been looking into collecting firearms lately. I almost have enough saved to start my collection. But I keep hearing different things about the background checks. I have petty theft on my record from 5 years ago when I turned 18. Will that prevent me from buying a gun? If so, is it still easy to buy at a gun show or do they do the same checks now? Any info would be great, I just dont want my first gunshow to be a disappointment because I leave empty handed.
Petty theft doesn't sound like a felony. If I were you, I'd check with the county where you were convicted and find out what's on your record. Then go to a local gunshop and ask if you're qualified.
Last time I went, I took my SIL and his brother along. The space was bigger, but I thought the dealers and the inventory were not as good as the earlier one. When you say more vendors, I feel compelled to ask what kind of vendors they might be.
It's a decent show, but I have to decide if I want to invite a new guy, a Viet-Nam vet and former armorer or gunsmith, to come along. He's from New Jersey and has lived here for a couple of years. He has Parkinson's and is pretty concerned about being bumped or jarred since he has had neck surgery and a sudden jolt could leave him paralyzed. That's why he doesn't shoot rifles anymore.

Actually, the space last time should have been smaller: more tables in the same building, although it was configured a bit differently, which might have given the impression of more space.
The vendors will be along the same line as we already have. We try to keep flea market stuff out, although I find 'flea market stuff' is subject to interpretation. One guy has said he thinks military surplus fits that category. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. We try to ensure that every display is hunting, shooting, or military related. We have one vendor right now that I consider 'border line,' but I keep him for a variety of reasons.
Re: the space in the larger building, it's hard to say right now. It will depend on the number of tables sold. There is the potential to have narrower aisles than we had the last two times, but they won't be a whole lot narrower. If you decide to bring your friend who has the health issues, I would suggest Sunday afternoon.
