I've got a used 45 I've had for a few years. It's a great gun for the $150 I paid for it. I didn't get the paperwork with it. I finally got manual and all off the website. I never had it completely torn down for a good cleaning. I clean it pretty regular but, just never the way it ought to be done.

Looking at the manual you pull the slide/carriage back, lock in place with the safety tang, remove the spring pin at the rear, and the top is suppose to slide right off. NOT. I have messed with it for 45 min one day and never got it off. I cleaned it best I could and put it back together.

What is the trick for getting the slide off the top? Help a brother out here.

LOL I put several hundreds of rounds through my .45 and never tore it down, I just cleaned the bore and swabbed the chamber, so I can't help ya out. Ya might google "Hi-Point .45 disassembly", there are a few good videos of stripping the carbines down I know, maybe someone posted how to strip the pistol.
