is there a long term storage for tobbaco product???
assume things break down, wouldn't it be good for barter purposes. i am sure there will be some one Jones'n for a smoke and would trade off something you need for a pack.

Actually, vacuum packing it would have an undesired effect. It would dry out the tobacco.
I have a pouch of pipe tobacco that I purchased in 1979, and have used on occasion, and it is still good. I keep it in a Tupperware container with a cigar moisturizer. I check it every 6 months to replenish the moisturizer. The tobacco still performs and tastes like the day I bought it.
I keep cigars in the same Tupperware container, as well.

Actually , you are wrong. Vacuum sealing will not dry out the tobacco and will preserve the freshness for many years . Moisture is Locked in and air is locked out. As long as the vacuum bag stays intact , the moisture will remain at the same level as when it went in. I have been using Vacuum seal technology for almost 20 years now and have sealed and tested lots of things for long term storage including Tobacco , Herbs, Primers, ammo, clothes, Mushrooms, Fish , Meats, cheeses, Jerky, dried foods, etc...
I use the Foodsaver Professional Model...

Best long term storage of loose tobacco in in mason jars. For pipe smokers that is common use. No extra moisture needed. Va tobac actually will age and get better this way. Keep out of sun or high heat. Plastic containers will work too. Humidors are for cigars.

Yup, and a piece of fruit, like an apple slice, goes a long way to keeping it moist.
