I believe there is NO time to use "Less than lethal" ammo.
If you HAVE to shoot, your life is in immediate danger, and you need to put the perp down NOW!

If someone is on your property and won't leave, he is trespassing - call the cops. Once he's on record for the incident, another arrest will get him more time in the hoosgow. If you shoot him with ANYTHING for mere trespass, YOU may go to the Graybar Hotel.

I use a 870 Magnum with the 21" Turkey barrel. It holds 7+1 and with the modified choke and #4 buck it opens up quicker than I would of expected. Yesterday at 10 yards it was in a 12-14 inch pattern at that distance, I'm gonna try it at 5 yards next, but I think the modified will work for me. In 2 3/4" cartridges the S&B brand has 27 pellets of #4. It'll do

No special tactical type shotgun for us. I have four field grade pump shotguns. I chose my 12 gauge Browning BPS with its 26" barrel, Invector full choke, and standard lead or copper plated 00 buck as a defense load. When I'm working in the yard, I use #7 birdshot to kill copperheads and rattlers that take wrong turns onto the property, but 00 buck goes back into the Browning before the day is through.

As long as I don't have bears to contend with like Mooseman I would use #4 buck and my 870 Rem. If I had bears like him it would be 00 and a slug next. PS I have a barrel I cut to 20" with no choke for close work.

Mossberg 500 20gauge with PGO grip. Loaded with #4 buck 'cause that's the biggest you can get for a 20.

Went with a 20 instead of a 12 because the wife has to be able to hang onto it too.
Say Hello To My Little Friend....

Realistically, home defense is more likely whatever was walking around with me that day because it winds up on the bedside table. Currently a Ruger P89.

You can also purchase slugs in 20ga, but I think it's only in 3 or 3.5" shells

A short barrel 870. Slugs and 00. The second to the bottom in the pic.

Loaded and ready to lock and rock.
