Surviving Disaster | SPIKE
Has anyone seen the previews for this show? Scheduled to premier September the 1st on Spike. Basically an ex-Navy SEAL is supposed to show the viewer how to survive different scenarios ranging from hostage/hijacking situations to catastrophic accidents.
Thoughts? I'm curious to see how the show goes and how much actual useful information it'll provide.
I've seen the previews...how much ya'll wanna bet that they'll gloss over or ignore that a good CCW weapon would be the best tool to survive most "urban" encounters? I presume it will focus on surviving natural disasters and such, one preview does show what appears to be a airline hostile takeover though.

I'd be willing to bet that, like "The Colony", there will be few if any firearms involved. I think it'll be entertaining but dont put much faith in it's viability.

just saw a comercial for this show... comes on at the same time that "the colony" does so i guess im bouncing between the two of them tonight... but it looks like the "man vs. wild" show on steroids and within an urban setting...

This first episode was not bad... and firearms can't come into play since it involves terrorists taking over an airplane... or more importantly taking the plane back from the terrorists.
I watched the hijacking episode, if you just sit down and think for a second, everything they did seems like a logical progression of events if you were a passenger on a hijacked plane and decided to take it back.. There were some interesting tidbits that could be useful like what radio channel is the emergency channel on the planes radio etc.
I guess it could work out pretty well assuming all the rest of the people on the plane arnt panicking screaming messes.
I want to see the episode when the small yield nuke goes off in the city.
I was curious who would actually need to tie up the hijackers? Other than that it seemed pretty reasonable like Tac said.
Now me being a firefighter, I'm interested in what they do next week with the fire in an office building.
I just had a thought while I was typing this. Any notice how the first and second episodes are kind of 9/11'ish. Plane hijacking (all the filghts but especially flight 93) and fire in an office building (WTC/Pentagon)?
^ Hey, I'm looking forward to the fire one now, especially now that we have someone one here that can analyze what really would be feasible. Keep up posted magicjeep

I was surprised, the first episode was actually decent. Pretty informitive too. Still a little leary of the show in the long run, but so far pretty good.
I too am awaiting the nuke episode...........

Just before the 1st episode started, it said it was dedicated to the people and the families that were effected by 9/11
I thought it was pretty good so far. I agree, to me what he suggested seemed logical to me, but to most people it wouldn't. And like others have said the little tid bits I picked up, like the emergency air frequency, was cool.

You want to keep them alive if you can in order to extract information from them by whatever means is necessary. You might also need them to get into the cockpit. I will point out that in the event, here are a couple of interesting things to try.
1. Force-feed the bad guys pork products, or threaten to. Eating or wearing parts of a pig is against their religion. If they aren't well-educated about Islam, and terrorists tend to have a selective education in their own religion, it might break them.
2. Threaten to cut their balls off. Many Muslims believe that there is a Legislation that says men who are not 'whole' cannot enter Paradise. (I've read the Koran in translation and I don't remember running across that one, but it's perception and not reality we are making use of here.) Previous comments about selective Koranic knowledge. Threatening to deny them their quota of virgins might make them talk.
If the S hits the fan this way and you're one of the folks getting splattered, you become a draftee into the War Against Terror. In war, you do whatever it takes to win. It is simple as that.
Cyrano, I didnt think of that. I was thinking I'm in a "its him or me" situation and I wouldve stomped him into a pulp.
Blood I didnt see the very begining of the show where it mentioned that.
Finally, I missed last nights episode. I forgot it was on and even if I remembered, I was out like a light by 930. I'm going to watch it now at spike.com
Kill all of them except for the guy flying he would be able to provide the most info the others are a liability if you try to tie them up or hold them captive til you land.
