Had a dream last night...What would you do IF?

So, had a dream. I was on a plane and it was hit by an EMP that of course sent it barreling toward the ground. A few of us managed to live through the crash and escaped the twisted metal tube. We were in the middle of nowhere and shortly found out that no help would be coming, because there was an invasion force in the United States. The plane had been hit with an EMP blast from a nuclear blast that took place in the atmosphere.

So, here is the scenario.

You find yourself escaped from a crashed plane, and now are in a SHTF scenario like above. You are in the US, but you lack any knives, guns or transportation that you have in your BoB and distaster plan back home.

What do you do?

For me...In my dream, water, medical attention if needed of course was primary, but...from there I immediately began trying to determine our location. From there, I wanted to get some food and figure out where the nearest small-town or somewhere to acquire what I was missing that I had back home. Then, it was time to find out how to get in contact with those I cared about.

I didn't get real detailed, but I am just interested in what you would do.

First order of business would be to take care of any medical conditions, of all survivors.

Second would be to secure water.

Third would be to ensure the Emergency Locator Transponder of the aircraft was activated.

(Even though you stated an EMP had occurred, I would still TRY any and All electronic devices we could lay our hands on, to see if they worked.)

Fourth would be to have everyone scour the wreckage for ANY equipment, food, clothing, bedding, supplies, etc. from the gallies, the baggage areas in overhead compartments, and cargo holds of the aircraft.

Next would be to search the bodies of non-survivors for useable items, especially cellphones.

Then, the fashioning of shelter and tools/weapons from wreckage parts would be a good task.

I'd personally check the cockpit instruments and pilots printed charts (if they were available) to determine where we were, and a feasible plan for getting a message to any populated center. I would also attempt to get the radios to work on 121.5 or 243.0 MHZ to send a distress call.

Then, it would be prudent to get someone (or more) to the top of a hill and set up signals or call out with cell phones (if we found any workable ones).

After that, it would depend on all the preceding variables.

I second what ten man said...expecially about checking the cargo/luggage holds, ya never know, someone may have been on a hunting trip with a nice rifle and ammo. The galley should provide several good knives. One of the passengers may have been a Air Marshall with a handgun, so a search of bodies could be productive.

i would take care of wounded first, then assess the situation...
1. how many people still up right and walking w/ no seriouse injuries...
2. is the plane on fire if so get everyone to safety...
3. next scrounge for usable items food, sheets, clothing and lugage...
4. then not knowing what brought the plane down start finding cell phones that work(being an emp blast no electronics would work) if nothing worked then sit down with survivors and make planes for shelter, food and water, evacuation.
5. prioritize everything that we have inventory everything and the deligate tasks to everyone so that we all keep busy doing something...

shelters... if any parts of the plane were still intacked then you could make shelters from the fuesalage...
food and water have people seach for streams or ponds or any water source...
make what we dont have from parts of the plane and woods... such as spears and primitive knifes pots from sheet metal for boiling an water found and for carring back found water... send out people to hill tops to look for signs of life and then make a scouting party to head for those signs of life and to bring back help.

Seriously, if you are having dreams like this, you need to avoid caffeine and cheese after 4:00 pm.

Same thing in any survival situation... claim the most attractive females left and kill off all rivals in their sleep, duh!

Well, to be fair, his name is CrazyIvan, maybe that's normal for him.

Other than that observation, I second TenMan

If an electromagnetic pulse sent your plane crashing

then it is very highly probable you have also absorbed a fatal dose of radiation. My first thought would be to envy the dead on the plane.

Beyond that it is a matter of whatever immediate medical attention you can receive or give, water, whtever shelter you can rig, and food.

Actually, I have a lot of dreams about blasting zombies, or driving fast cars, or chasing terrorists. I've always looked at it as being more of entertainment, like TV or Video Games, than it is an insight to my feelings or mental state. Since I've started looking forward to the dreamworld at night as entertainment, and what might happen, the stories have gotten better. I guess it has gotten to be more of a creativity thing than a 'how I feel' thing, kinda like painting a picture as opposed to talking to a therapist.

If a nuclear weapon explodes in the atmosphere, the EMP blast can travel much farther than the radiation, and in all directions. Roughly 20-40 Kilometers. Harmful radiation is usually focused on less than one mile-radius and downwind from there. So, chances are you would not be in the radiation field, but very well could be in the EMP blast field.

I think Ten Man has it pretty well figured out. You could probably find at least ONE gun on most flights ,maybe more if any of the passengers were LEO's. Other than that certainly take care of any and all injuries, try to figure where you're at search for water and rig at least a temporary shelter. Keep in mind that the transponders last known location will likely be the first place SAR begins it search.

After all of the above was done I would hike to the nearest farmhouse or town to try to find a "Supremely Viable 10/22 or a .410 pump with slugs...

As soon as I found a firearm I'd bring it home as soon as possible, come to G&G and start a post titled, "look what I found guys!". It would say somthing like, "found this on the plane I was on, gonna take it to the range this weekend, will post pics and range results.

-Dillon"

Ever read the book "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen? Its about a kid about 13 or 14 who is in a bush plane going to Alaska to visit his dad. The pilot has a heart attack and dies somewhere over Canada. The Plane crashes into a lake. The kid survives, and has to fend for himself in the wilderness.

It's a good book. There was a sequel or two.

First things first, take stock of the situation. Then organize groups and set them to priority tasks, start barkin' orders, people are scared confused and hurt;a strong voice and leader will give a sense of security and purpose.
Figure out who among you is best suited to over see things and keep things movin. I could go on and on but this is probably a good way if not the best way to start.

I would start begging St. Peter to let me through the pearly gates since there is no way I would survive a plane crash.
