Early Goose Season

The early goose season starts here in Minnesota on Saturday, and im more than ready! A couple weeks ago, I did some extra work and bought a dozen Green Head Gear FFD goose decoys to add to the spread, they look amazing.

I got permission on a feild that was holding around 100 birds, but they seemed to have left. However, they are chopping the field next to it today, so hopefully they come back, otherwise i'll just have to run traffic on them.

So, do any of you guys have hunts like this? Lets hear about them!

We have an early season in Sept as well. I don't have any place to hunt them though. I used to know a guy who would let me go out to the strip mines with him. We'd put the stalk on them there.

Thats too bad. Gaining access is getting tougher and tougher. If you make it out to MN, let me know. We have usually have a couple good fields, a few dozen decoys and some layout blinds. Put you on some birds for sure!

Early goose started today in Wisconsin. My friend and I were out Mourning Dove hunting and we saw tons of geese, we were both pissed that we didn't have the stuff we needed to kill a goose, namely permits. So we picked em up today and are going back out tomorrow morning to try our luck.

In North Carolina and Virginia we are overrun with Canadian Geese. Nobody hunts them around here, but we have a statewide season for all of September. I've been thinking about getting into goose hunting, just to keep the numbers down. They crap all over the place. Darned things.

If your experience is similar to mine, the birds that are nuisance are resident birds which live in areas not available for hunting. They don't migrate to feed very much.

Ask any local greenskeeper about the putting green damage they do to his course.

Good luck.
