Hello everyone at gun and game. Let me first start with saying its good to be back, I was away from home at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO doing my US Army Military Police training. While there I had a lot of range time with an M4 RAS, they had it with a Knights Armament Company (KAC) RAS which I have grown not only accustomed to, but fond of. it also had the Aimpoint M68 Close Combat Optic, but I prefer my eotech for my Rock River. I'm seriously considering picking one up (all that government money is burning a hole in my pocket!) so was wondering if any of you had positive/negative experiences with it. the KAC website also sells "slightly blemished" rails for about half the price, and at 350 for a new non-blemished rail set, i was considering that. Also, I'm sure there's a better place to grab this Rail Adapter System than from the makers. Can't seem to find any for much of a better price. Any help there would be appreciated as well.
My second item i wish to bring to the table tonight is your opinions on a mock suppressor/barrel shroud. After working with 10.5 and 11.5" barrels on our M4s, coming home to my 16" barrel it bugged me how much it potrudes from the hand guards. This website seems to make fairly sturdy mock suppressors/barrel shrouds. Although I doubt anyone has experience with them, I figured I'd ask. It would be an effective way to shorten the visible length of the barrel.
Let the advising begin, and again, good to be back.

The KAC rails are very well built. They're up there with LaRue and Daniel Defense. The latter two are both going to be lighter, but if you're used to the KAC, by all means go with that.
As far as the barrel... Unless you go through the NFA process, you can't have less than a 16" barrel. If you were to put a shorter barrel with mock suppressor, you'd have to permanently attach it.
It doesnt shorten barrel length. its a barrel shroud. It wouldnt make it SBR status, length is still 16" but it makes it look a little less thin and long. take a look and tell me what you all think.
first off those mock suppressors are sick, and now i have to get one.
as for your other questions if you are gonna be using your rifle a lot then the rail will get beat up so id save the money and get one with blemishes, yes the knights rails are a little heaver than Danial defense and laRue.
Im not sure about Oregon but in Washington you have to have a minimum barrel length of 16 inches so the it might have to be permanently attached
