I wonder if they're going to pull the plug on the computers here at school so no one can watch the now famous speech.
The news this morning had some folks who said their kid could watch this version of the speech, but they weren't at all convinced that what is now the speech is the one that was originally planned.
Is there anything this administrative team can do that will restore their credibility?

What makes anyone think the speech was changed, just because Obama pre-posted it?
Do you really think he had planned to give a speech to a bunch of schoolchildren that would have outraged the parents? What would have been the point?
Personally, I thought what he said made sense. And I don't think it would hurt for a back-to-school speech to become an annual tradition, no matter who the President may be. Positive reinforcement from public leaders isn't a bad thing.
I saw nothing wrong with the President addressing school kids. All Obama did was say things up lifting to the kids and to stay in school and try harder.
A Mountain was made out of a Mole Hill concerning this. I didn't vote for Obama and many here know how I feel about him so don't even think about pegging me of being a Liberal Comminist Turkey butt !!!
If what he did helps some kids to take thought and buckel down I'm for it...A.H
My only issue is, I think he should have waited a day or two. The first day is usually busy, he should have allowed the teachers one day with their students with no distractions. Other than that, I have no problem at all.
As far as the speech...I think the parents should be invited as well. And, I am not sure which age to start it out with. I don't know if elementary school is too young or not.

I would think it would be uplifting for a child to know that the President wants them to do as best as they can in securing a good education. Now, if they would just fund it !!

Like I said earlier.I beleive it is mostly about folks just being sick and tired from all the lies, behind the door wheeling and dealing, mandating and crap in general.
It really wouldn't make a lot of difference to many which side of the aisle the crap was comeing from or the color of the source,BS is BS! joofo.

I think there is, but I think it unlikely. They'd need to "clean house" of the tax cheats and wacky czars, as well as de-nationalize what they've nationalized.
I think coming hat-in-hand back to America (rather than the arrogant infomercial/ramrod/untruthfulness presentations we've been getting from the administration) would go along way--more of an "I work for you as a public servant--you've been heard loud and clear that you don't want this. I want to know where to go from here from YOU" type of approach might over time restore credibility. We seem to get a say-anything-get-on-board with my way cheerlead and ramrod my agenda approach -- if the administration would junk this, stop spending, and attempt to actually work and represent who elected him I think that credibility would be restored over time.
AND our nation would be much better off as well.

The problem was the original speech had plans to ask the children to write letters explaining what they could do to help the Obama administration. Whether that was in general, or aimed at health care or what, is unknown (to me at least). The speech he gave was fine and dandy, but whether that was the same speech with some of his personal/political agenda items removed is not clear. Indoctrination of school children to "social reform" or "social justice" is not acceptable to me.
If that was the original speech, the outcry would not have happened. When the speech he gave came out a few days back, parents largely stopped complaining. I too would want to know what is being fed to our children by the most powerful man in America before I signed off on it.

Nor would putting their money where their mouth is and funding public schools !
The thing we have to deal with in public education that no other business endeavor must is the simple fact that we have absolutely no control over what kind of raw material we get. NCLB was hugely costly from the standpoint of professional time spent on what, from a business standpoint, was/is inferior raw material to bring it up to the level of the rest of the raw material. That investment in the kids who for one reason or another do not function well in a school situation deprived the kids who are most capable of a lot.
For the most part, NCLB had (and has, it's just been renamed with the new team) the effect of forcing us to teach to a common level of mediocrity rather than getting every student to achieve to the best of their ability.
In shooter's parlance, it's like spending lots of time and money working up a load for a lever gun to get it to shoot to 2 minutes of angle while your bolt gun or AR sits in the corner, easily capable of that accuracy and more, potentially way more, but more or less unused and not even sighted in. Then when it's time to go hunting, you wonder why you miss.
It's a nice idealistic thought to pretend that all kids have equal talents or that we can somehow take the lowest achievers and bring them up to the level of the best achievers, but the reality is that our resources, both human and financial are limited. Which is better for the country, to make sure every Bobby and Elly can sign their name or to make sure Jimmy and Sally get the chance to be a doctor? Remember now, if you go for Bobby and Elly, then Jimmy and Sally won't make the cut to med school, but if you go for Jimmy and Sally then Bobby and Elly won't graduate from high school. You can't have both. NCLB forces you to choose Bobby and Elly, figuring Jimmy and Sally will get by okay without striving to be their best.
