I do agree there are useful and stronger homes built of materials other than wood.
However, beyond wood and steel framing (or a combination of these two)
insurers and mortgage lenders just really don't want to deal with you. It is more a matter of you finding an exception to the norm if you find someone who will deal with you.
I don't make the rules. I just had to build within the confines of the rules.
Perhaps in another ten years or so the insurance/mortgage viewpoint will change in some ways.
I remember so very well the absolute devastation that some log home owners faced when they learned their home was worth only the land upon which it sat. The more custom the design the farther away it was from a mortgage for the next homebuyer. Again, I didn't make the situation. I just lived in the reality.
