Yesterday, I traded a gun I don't ever use [AP-9] for a new P-95. I can't wait to get it on my permit and go to the range with it. I have an older model P-89 and love that gun too, but it's alittle too big for carry work. The magazines from my P-89 will fit the P-95 so I should have lots of fun burning ammo.
Does anyone have a history of shooting P-95s with +P+ ammo? How does the gun handle with the added snot of those loads?
I am formerly from NY and when I read a statment like yours "can't wait to get it on my permit" I just cringe. You see here in Missouri the government doesn't infringe on our rights near as much as in NY. I can walk in a gunshop and walk out with my new handgun as soon as I have it paid for.

The first "big" pistol I ever bought was a P-95. One of the two worst gun decisions I ever made was selling it. The other was selling a Ruger Mk2. Congrats.
I looked at a P95 when I first turned 21. Along with many many other handguns and rifles for that matter. But for and to me, the P95, at the time, was just too bulky for my liking.
But it's a damn good semi-auto. One of many quality Rugers out there... CONGRATS!

My brother had a PT111 that he bought when he first turned 21. He has a medical condition that made his dominant hand weak. The double action only trigger pull was too stiff for him to shoot the gun accurately. He asked me to take it to a gun show and try to sell it so he could buy something different. I found a P95 for a decent price and the guy traded straight up. I like the gun but I like my P94 better.
well, I got the gun on my permit Thursday [9/10/09] and went to the shop to pick it up. Since it uses the same mags as my P-89, I traded the 2 NY compliant 10 round mags for 2 boxes of blazer 115 gr FMJ ammo.
I went home, got 3 of my p-89 mags, grabbed some HOTTT 115 grain HP loads and headed for the range. The gun feed and fired everything with 100% reliability and all the hits were centered. I was shooting a a steel "christmas tree" and was hitting nearly 95% of the time no matter how fast I was shooting.
It handles well, doesn't twist in my hands and seems very accurate with the issued sites and 115 grain ammo. I'm very pleased with it, and will continue to run the gun hard thru the coming years.
Congrats on the pistol. I'm a Ruger fan, especially the revolvers. If you carry a hi cap and get caught won't you get into trouble?
No. The mags are older and they have been grandfathered in. Before the 1994 ban went into place, I bought a bunch of the 15 round mags and put them away in an ammo can with some silica chips. The law won't allow new mags to be sold in NY, but pre-ban ones are ok.
The pistols sure does shoot well. I love the feel of it and the fact that it shoots my reloads [1300+fps /115 gr HPs] to the sights is great. I now have another gun I can carry for Personal defense.
I got my Ruger P95 about a month ago and haven't been about to take it out yet. Glad you like yours. Can't wait to find time to get out and break mine in. I use to leave in NY too. Happy I now leave in a state without all those restrictions.
Mine is a P-95DC. Compared to my 1911, I need to do more deliberate aiming for the first shot. The 1911 just points where I look. On follow up shots, however, the Ruger is much quicker since it stays on target better due to the different recoil impulse.
With current prices for 9mm, I can shoot the P-95 with factory ammo for just barely more than it costs to reload the stuff. That's far from true with the .45. The 9mm is almost a plinker in comparison, costwise. I can still find the 115 grain JHP Blazer Brass at $10 for 50 rounds in Wally World.
