I used to work in this building on the 7th floor. It used to be an old theater and hotel. I remember it had the most beautiful marble staircases and the steps had been used so much they were worn to an almost wavy look. They say the 7th floor was the most haunted. Jayhawk Theater
I have heard footsteps, noticed things having had being moved, elevator doors opening and closing with buttons pushed and nobody there. I had keys to the building and was usually the first person there in the mornings at 6am. I never noticed anything bad, just a lot of activity. Then there was the old parking garage across the street where I had to park. In the lobby, on a lot of the mornings that early, I would see an old black man in a top hat and suit and and old white woman in a pink old fashioned satin dress and they would both nod at me and I would say hi and go on. What was weird is that there was no express in their eyes. I could turn around and look and they would be gone. And there was no place for them to go from where they were in the lobby, it would have either been on the elevator or out the door I just went out. And the elevator was still there with the doors open. For the longest time I didn't think ghosts until someone finally started telling me the history of the building. Then it all made sense. I actually thought it was pretty cool.

I've had quite a few things happen in my life. I also think I've become a bit of a 'sensitive' to presence of those in the afterlife.
I'll explain more if anyone is interested.

Nope, not kidding. Didn't realize they were ghosts until after the fact. This hotel was known during its heyday of being a place for prostitution and such. The stories say that a lot of people had committed suicide by jumping out the windows on the 7th floor. The windows didn't open anymore when I worked there, they had been changed to the all glass sealed windows. But it's a really weird feeling to hear the elevator doors ding, here footsteps and nobody is there. Or look in the elevator and all the floor buttons were pushed and nobody on there. I would walk down the hall to see who was there. Like I said, I had keys to the building and was always the first person there that early. I've worked as late as 10pm at night too. That is a spooky time to get off and have to walk to your car, but I saw the most stuff early in the mornings. Downtown Topeka is pretty historic in its own right anyway and this building is right in the center of it.
Besides AH, they acknowledged me. They didn't jump out and go boo. That might have made me change my mind. LOL

I tend to think I am almost up to being able to write a book. LOL. My wife and I have ran a paranormal investigation group for the past 5+ years. Lately we mainly focus our efforts at the old Mansfield Reformatory here in Ohio (site of filiming of the Shawshank Redemption) and for the past 2 years, have been volunteers for the over night ghost hunts.
I figured I should at least type out one story. Back when my group of friends started our investigation group, we were visiting an old cemetary in eastern central Ohio. It was very old family cemetary, and was located on property that no one lived on anymore. There was a very evil being that lived in the old abadoned house. It never seemed to come out until we went past the house heading to the cemetary. Normally we were safe inside the cemetary, but almost every time we were chased back to our cars by this evil thing. One night about 4 25-30 foot trees feel down behind us as we were chased out. No wind or anything that night to cause that to happen. Also all the trees were not even close to one another, so they were being knocked down by another one falling. We have also had crosses ripped off from around our necks.
On the worst night, we believe the evil thing posessed our one friend that was with us that night. When we made it back to the car that night, she almost fell asleep getting into the car. From that point on she started talking, but it wasn't her voice. She was also answering questions we asked her. She said she was one of the people buryed in the cemetary and she was trying to kill my wife and her sister. We tried putting a necklace with a cross around her neck and as it hit her skin, she screamed and tore the necklace from my wife's hands. When we went to pick it up, it was broke and re-attached in 4 different pieces. We went to a church and got some holy water and added it to her bottle of water she was drinking. She took one drink and shot up saying she was going to be sick. We pulled over the car and she thew up for about 30 minutes, every time after she drank the water. We recorded this all on a tape recorder as this was happening. It is a very crazy thing to listen to, even all these years later.

When I was around 10 years old, I cut the heck out of my thumb with my not-so-trusty pocket knife. I still have the scar; probably should have had stitches. I was in bed that evening, waiting to go to sleep, kinda pissin' and moanin'.
I felt my dog jump up on the bed, near my feet. I sat up to pet her when instead I saw the lady who used to own our house. She smiled at me and faded away, along with the weight on the bed. About then I remembered that she had died a few years before that.
I figured it was a dream.
But, years later, my sister (10 years older than I) told me she saw the same lady in the house around the same time..........

I have never been to the Mansfield Prison (or any other prison, thank you God!!). It is about an hour or so away, I think one day the future wife and I will have to check it out. She also believes in ghosts. We also need to check out the remains of Gore Orphanage someday as well.
Thanks

It is where a spirit or memory of one attaches itself to an object. Often happens when someone is close to something of theirs. Kind of like the country song "Private Malone." But, it isn't always as goodhearted as in that song.

The bad thing about scoping out 'hot' spots is that you can have something follow you home if you aren't carefull. That is why you see a lot of paranormal teams do something to keep them from being harmed or followed before entering the grounds/building.

So, my story started when I was young.
I was about 10 years old. At the time, I lived with my mom and my grandma. We only had 3 bedrooms, so we each had our own. And at the time, we had a Vizsla dog. Basically a bird dog. She was just a family pet though, not trained to hunt.
Anyway, one of my aunts came to visit, so she was to sleep in my room. So, that night, I slept on the couch. In the middle of the night, I woke up and the dog was laying on the couch sleeping with me. I looked over and she was staring toward the doorway leading into the bedroom area. I looked over and a semi-translucent woman, in her 80's I'd say with a long white gown and kind of crazy frizzy hair sticking out the sides came into view from the hallway. She floated into the living room and passed me. As she passed, she stared into my eyes. The dog just lay there as well. I was frozen. As much as I wanted to scream, I couldn't. As she went to where her back was to me, I looked down and she was floating on white puffs of cloud for feet that did not touch the ground, and she was not walking, she was floating.
She passed out of view into the kitchen and I was on the virge of crying. Then, she came back from the kitchen. Same thing...floated passed me and stared into my eyes as she went. She went back into the hallway and I never saw her again.
I will never forget her eyes. They were black as the night sky without stars. They were hollow and empty, yet intent remained.
A few months after that incident, I found out my grandfather, who had died, had seen this figure about 15 years earlier in the same manner in that house, which my grandmother and mother still live.
After that happened, so many things happened to me. My mom worked, and still works nights as a night attendant at an animal hospital.
One time, she was working, and my grandmother had gone to Clifton to stay with an uncle at his peach orchard for a week or whatever. I woke up one night to a loud slam. Kind of made me jump out of bed. I was about 15 at the time. I looked over at the clock and it was like 4:12am. Only reason I remember this is because my mom got off work at 5am and so I figured maybe she just came home early and thought I'd go say hello. I went out in the living room, and could see through the front window that her truck was not there. So, I suddenly was looking at an intruder in the house.
As you walk through the living room, there is a doorway on the right that leads to the kitchen. Then, once in the kitchen, on the left is an outside wall with a window and on the right is the counter with the sink. Over the sink is a small flourescent light that we would keep on at night in case my grandma wanted to get water or something, she could see. So it was just a habbit that we had and it happened to be on. So, at night, as you walk through the living room, you can see a reflection in the window of the whole kitchen. I was slowly walking toward the doorway and in the reflection on the window I saw a large dark figure pass and come toward the doorway where I was. It was moving pretty quickly. It scared the total crap out of me and I jumped back about 3 feet. My stomach felt like I had jumped out of a plane...whoa! But, nothing came through the doorway.
I slowly walked toward the doorway and peered into the kitchen. No one was there. BUT...every drawer, every cabinet, the dishwasher...everything was opened.
Same thing happened another time, my grandma had went to Alaska to visit her sister. My mom was at work. It was probably a year after the shadow in the reflection incident. I was awoken around 2am to the sound of pots slamming together.
I really wasn't thinking at the time and went out to the kitchen. Nothing. Through the kitchen was an addition that was put onto the back of the house. Just outside the kitchen door to the addition on the left was a pegboard that we had all the pans & stuff hanging on. I turned on the light to find a skillet and a wok on the floor. The pegs that they were hanging on had been ripped from their holes, and actually broke the pegboard where they were hanging from.
This house was built in 1947 and has been in my family since the early 50's. My mother was born in 1956. When she was a kid, she saw an energy orb come within 2 feet of her lying in bed at night.
There was the story my grandfather had. He owned his own security company and often would patrol at night. So, when he was off, he couldn't sleep at night. So he often sat in his easy chair in the living room and smoked the night away watching out the window. That is what he was doing when he saw that woman with the clouded feet, like I did so many years later after his death.
Since my incident with the pots, nothing has happened in that house that I know of. It seems to be free of whatever inhabited it from the spirit world.
Then, onto my years after that. It seemed I could feel something in various places I would go. Not always, but sometimes. I didn't know what it was, but it was an uneasiness. It was a feeling of motion, eyes on you, stale air and uncalming. I did not know what it was until I moved out when I was 23 in 2003. My first apartment...It was a studio apartment 1 bedroom and very small living room. Maybe 500-600sq. ft. total. Everytime I would turn out the lights, I would feel as though I was being followed through that place. It freaked me out. So I lined the path from the kitchen to the bedroom with night lights. It kind of alleviated it there.
But, the second apartment was a different story. It was in a complex about 5 years old at the time, that had been built over what used to be an old mall that had been there for about 35 or so years. And who knows what it was before that.
There was no hallway. It was kind of like a large loft apartment, but the bedroom had 4 walls and a door. The door led right out into the living room. Everynight I would go to bed, I could feel something watching me from a central area in the living room. It was so uncomfortable. Every night. I got used to it somewhat. But, I could walk to areas in the apartment I felt like I was being pulled to, and could feel chills run up my spine. It never would come into the bedroom. It stayed in the living room. One night, I was awoken by what sounded like a coin being scraped across the counter in the living room. This was after I had gotten into guns and personal defense, all that. So I reached over and grabbed my handgun and went out into the living room, which was a large room, as I said like a loft, with the kitchen. In the kitchen was a large Island. This apartment was pretty big. Probably the size of a small 3 bedroom house, but only had 1 medium sized bedroom and a huge great room/dining and kitchen all in one. On the island, I found my house key, which had been removed from my keychain. It was sitting there right in the middle of the island. And, there was a deep gash running across the island in a straight line that had not been there the day before.
I hadn't told any of this to anyone. A friend came over one night and was hanging out, and we were talking. All of a sudden, he jerked his head and looked up at the ceiling. I was like: "What?" He said: "I just saw a dark shadow move real fast across the ceiling." Then, he blamed it on my cat. I was like: "I don't think the cat can crawl on the ceiling." So I went & looked and she was asleep on my bed.
A few weeks after that, I decided to close the bedroom door. I could feel ANGER coming from the other side of that door. I could sense whatever it was was PISSED that it could not watch me while I sleep. I ignored it for about a week and then it just became so overwhelmed with this interruption...I decided to open it again. I got up out of bed and reached for the handle on the door. As I unlatched it and began to pull it open, it felt as if something pushed the door. My knuckles were jammed against the door...and I pulled my hand away quickly. The door completed its swing to the open position.
I dealt with the feeling at that apartment. And, another friend who had not known about the happenings came in. He saw the same thing...a shadow move across the wall real quickly.
Since I have moved into this house I am in now, I don't have any problems here with paranormal activity...thank God. I can walk around in the dark with only stubbing my toe to worry about.
But, the feelings are not gone. I have gone into people's houses and felt a presence...only to find after bringing it up that they have had some instances of activity at some point.
This was only a few months ago that this happened. My grandma's longtime neighbor, who babysat me when I was a little kid moved out of her house. It is the house right next to my grandma's house. The woman's mother had died there in the house a few years back. I hadn't been in there since I was a little kid. So, my mom went in to help clean after they moved everything out. The lady said that if there is anything they left that we want, we could have it. My mom found an evaporative cooler fan in the basement in the back of a supply closet, and thought I might want it, since I don't have air conditioning here.
So, I went over there one night around 10pm to get it. She gave me one of her flashlights to use, as the electric had been turned off. Well my mom doesn't really keep the best items around, so this flashlight was almost useless. I went into the house and immediately felt a swoop of emotion come over me. It wasn't anything like sadness or happiness...just that there was something there. I didn't really even think about any of this until I entered that house. I quickly made my way to the basement door and remembered all the ghost stories of people being pushed down the stairs...and these stairs were concrete and really steep.
I hesitated, but decided to be a man and go down anyway. Nothing happened, but I just had the feeling that something was right behind me the whole time. I went down, and this basement is creepy. It is the kind of basement you would see in one of those houses where a guy keeps a woman captive for 20 years. It was put in beneath the addition to the house that had been done a couple decades before. No windows, hard, rough concrete walls. The width of the basement is maybe 10-12 feet. There is a small 'bedroom' if you want to call it that, at the end of the basement about 6-feet deep and stands the width of the basement. It had a cot in there.
Anyhow, I grabbed the cooler from the back of the supply closet, which was a hole punched out under the stairs. And hurried back up to the main floor where I sat it on the ground and used part of the light coming in through the windows to check it for Black Widows or anything else that I didn't want crawling on me. Once it was clear, I picked it up and carried it back through the rear of the house where I entered...but that...thing...was on my tail the whole way.
Once I got out and back to my mom...I told her: "Something is in there...something not...alive." She thought I meant a body. I said: "No, a spook." Then I realized... "Oh, Thelma (that's the woman who moved out)...her mother died in that house, didn't she?" ..."Yep."
Since I encountered the thing in my apartment watching me while I slept...I have been able to drive around town and feel pulled toward houses that have something in them or around them. It is a feeling...kind of like if you put in context the Predator's thermal vision. Where everything is blue and when something is hot, it is a bright red or white color. Only, I don't really see it that way, but that is how I feel it.
I want to expand my sensitivity to be able to feel them communicate with me, but to be honest, I am kind of affraid to do that. I've always felt like...when I feel these entities...that they want to tell me something or communicate. But, I've never really acknowledged it. That and I really haven't met anyone that I could share these experiences with and have for support if I went that route either. If I did, I would most likely definitely explore those possibilities.
Anyhow, time goes on and about once every 2 or 3 months, I will go into someone's house where I feel a presence. Nearly everyday, I drive and pass 2-3 buildings, mostly houses, that I feel my aura is being pulled toward.
I've never encountered one that seemed evil...and that is what I am affraid of. They may have been spirits that like to make bumps in the night and play with you...but nothing that really was out to harm a person. I don't know how to protect myself from that if I ran into one, and that is one of the main reasons I don't try to expand my sensitivity to it all.
I know this all might sound like a load of crap, but these are things that I truely have experienced, witnessed and felt. If anything, maybe it will let ya'll know a bit more about me.
