Fall Veto Session

Keep your eyes and ears open. The anti-gun folks in the state legislature have a whole host of bills they are going to try and run through.According to an e-mail sent out by the ISRA the dems think that with the general dissatisfaction in the state with the blago scandal and obama and the dems in general they are afraid of getting a more gun friendly administration and legislature in along with a Republican senator in the 2010 elections. So they have a whole host of repressive gun bills lined up.But be aware that the Republicans are selling us a bill of goods with some of their candidates and take our votes for granted. If they don't come up with something better than what they have at present,it might be a good time for gun owners to sit the 2010 election out and show them which side their bread is buttered on.

JimBob, I can't agree with the idea of gun owners sitting out the election to show the Republiclowns where their support lies. If you do that, all it will mean is the Demoncrats will have even fewer restraints on their anti-gun agenda than they do now.

The only way you ever get change in our system is to get out and vote in every election including, perhaps especially including the primaries, if you are a registered member of a political party. In between elections, you have to keep on writing your elected representatives at all levels to let them know what you think of the job they are doing, and what you would like them to do, and how you would like them to vote on various bills. The bozos may not always listen, but at least they will be aware that there are constituents out there who feel a certain way about a given bill.

Trying to get change in the American political system is like trying to alter the shape of a big stone. There are three ways to do it.

Running water will over a very long time change the face of the stone. That's what you get when you allow societal mores and cultural change to influence the politicians and the laws.

A hammer and chisel will alter the shape of the stone more rapidly. That's what you get when the constituency keeps bombarding the politicians with emails, letters and phone calls on a regular basis. The politicians will craft laws to give the people what it's clear they want.

Explosives will blast a stone to bits. That's what you get when the people get fed up and either revolt against the government, tearing it down to start over again; or when there is a decisive change of parties in the government, with one party holding so many of the seats in the legislature plus the executive branch that they can do whatever they want without the opposition being able to muster enough votes to stop them. I'm thinking of Hitler and the Nazis in 1933 here. (It is this scenario that Obama thought he'd have when he took office. Fortunately for us, his explosives are wet and don't explode well, at least so far. Between the Democrats' ongoing problems in the Senate and the 'Blue Dog' Democrats in the House, he hasn't been able to do as much of his social agenda as he wants. And a good thing, too!)

Of the three ways of changing the shape of the stone, the second is by far the best and the one all of us who own guns and enjoy shooting and hunting should be actively pursuing every day. Apathy will get us nowhere. Activism will go a long way toward our keeping the rights the Framers incorporated into the Constitution.

It's working at Town Hall Meetings and Tea Partys.

Sitting this one out and not voting is not the answer. Forget the parties and vote for the candidate who supports your beliefs in changes needed and supports and will uphold the Constitution as written and understood by our Founding Fathers.

Amen, Windwalker...If you sit on your a** and don't vote; you're part of the problem. It's obvious there is a defeatist attitude within the realm of Illinois and Californis...throw in New York just for flavor.
If the gun owners united and demonstrated a common strength maybe your gun rights wouldn't be in such a situation.
Screw the party platform...vote for the candidate who believes the way you do...in the worst case scenerio, vote for the lessor of evils.

Sit out and not vote, excuse me, but do you want them to pass the stuff you're warning us about?

And with the state the way it is, the way it looks it will go for the Dems. in 2010 as it is, I personally think ALL Dems. are leery of passing anything anti-gun because they remember what happens EVERY TIME THEY HAVE DONE IT IN THE PAST!

Don't know about you JimBob, BUT ME, I'M GONNA VOTE!

Cyrano hit the nail on the head --- "especially including the primaries" That's when you can vote the bad republicans out. Of course, you've got to do your homework so you don't put someone in there that is worse.

What we have in this state is two parties representing the same point of view. There is no lessor evil, both are equally evil. There is currently no viable third party that has any chance of gaining state office. The Republican Party in this state is a joke. The people they field for the constitutional offices and for US Senator are no different than the ones fielded by the Democtats in political orientation.Vote to be voting,I DON"T THINK SO.That's how we ended up with Bolognavich.

We need to let the candidates KNOW beforehand that we are voting for gun friendly candidates... maybe the ISRA has a petition to lobby, I am not sure, but if so, we all need to get on board!

Keep on keepin' us informed, I am so busy with school and work that I dont keep up on the news as much as I would like and the morning talk radio when I am on my commute is all soft gobbledegook that end up listening to the classic rock n roll station!

Illinois is pretty famous for like Jimbob says having both party lines blurring a tad and one often isnt much better than the other and you are right.... that is how we ended up with old helmet hair blowhard but at least we know to try to avoid that fiasco again!

We gotta stick together and get us some folks with common sense that represent the "rest" of us in the state... i.e... hardworking taxpaying folks!
