Savage MK11 BTVS vs used +REM. 540x for rimfire BR
Hi,
I posted this elsewhere but am unsure as a newbe where it should go so I'm putting it in 2 places. I am interested in breaking into rimfire bench rest but am considering starting with a factory sporter class rifle as an inexpensive introduction to the game, rather than starting with a custom rig at $2-4000. I was impressed with Outdoor life's tests of the Savage MK11 BTVS, sub 1/4" groups @ 50 yds., and was ready to buy one when I talked to a local who poo pooed my choice. He suggested a used remmington 540x, 504T or 513T. I also see many people who like CZ a lot. I am unclear on sorting all this out and could stand some objective assistance. I am hoping to keep my initial investment below $1000 including gun, scope, accessories, rest etc. I already own a very good 60x nikon spotting scope so I can skip that expense at least. Your thoughts please.

Reason: addition/ elaboration
If you lived in Minnesota I would tell you to come over and take a look at my Marlin 2000 with its adjustable butt (in,out, cant left or right etc.) and its quality peep sights. The ones you stated are all good choices as is the Winchester 52.
Thank you for the response to my question. After 3 days of wondering why I got no response to my question by email I went back to the site and found that I had one. I'm used to sites that alert me on responses via email but even at 70, I can change. I am still up in the air as to which way to go but I'm closer. It's between the savage and the cz at this point. I don't want to get into barrel replacement with an older used gun until I'm further into it and I assume it would be advised with an older gun( rem or marlin. Accuracy is my principal concern at least initially ( cz rem. and marlin certainly have the edge aesthetically) and The savage looks like the best out of the box choice in my price range. If I like as much as I expect I will I will own a lot of guns soon. I just have to get started. Thank's again, Bard
