Was just looking at some Wolf ammo for my RIA 1911A1 Officer. Was wondering if anyone had any experience shooting Wolf ammo with their 1911. Is it ok? Does it cause damage or undue wear on the pistol?
Thanks.

Probably jumped the gun on posting this. I did a search and found some posts here from a while back. I guess it is ok to use Wolf, as long as you don't have any problems. Any further discussion is welcome.

Some folks contend that the steel cases will cause more wear than the brass cases, but I have no data on any studies done to verify how many rounds it takes to create an ill effect.
I have used Wolf steel cased ammo in many combat rifles, for years, with no noticeable effect. I suspect that a 1911 may be a bit more susceptible to erosive forces than a rifle, though.
I would think the most wear would be on the extractor, due to steel on steel force, and the small surface area of contact.

Ain't worth a poop for reloading though, and won't make you any friends at the range if you leave it laying on the ground. Steel-cased ammo is the work of the debbil!

Never heard of any problems. Even if it burns a little dirty just give your 1911 a good cleaning.
hah, my 1911 gets really dirty after a shoot anyway. Black GSR up my arm & everything, and that is with the ok ammo like Winchester FMJ's ...mm mm good.

It's ok, I don't have a reloader anyway, and really wouldn't know the first thing about doing it if I tried. I know I could learn, but right now, I have no idea. One of the ranges I go to doesn't allow you to collect dropped casings. If you have a catcher, yea, and sometimes your own if it is obvious. But, other than that, they sell the casings that they collect at the end of the week by the pound I think. They remove all the steel casings with a big handheld magnet. At least that is what I heard them tell about 2 people the last couple times I've gone when they've seen them picking up brass around the range.

Wolf has jammed up my ARs a few different times. I stopped using Wolf in my ARs for that reason + it looks like someone took a dump in my barrel. In my AKs Wolf works great, very few misfires, jams, etc. I have yet to use it in my 1911s but I may be tempted to try it soon since that is the only brand of .45 that I can find now.

I've used it in both of my RIA's and my old Taurus PT1911 with zero problems. Dirty? Sure - but what ammo is clean? As TeeRex said - just clean it your pistol after a range session and you shouldn't have any problems either.

The lacquer that the Wolf ammo used to be coated with was very prone to gumming up ARs if they were not cleaned after every couple hundred rounds.
Now, Wolf ammo is coated with a new polymer that does not melt and "goo" all the working parts like it used to. Gun powder residue is still a factor, but no worse than any other less expensive powder I've used for plinking ammo.

Thanks for the replies. Bought some Wolf for my AR. I already have a bunch of Wolf for that, but haven't used any yet. Bought some Wolf for my RIA 1911 as well.
I have various brands of ammo for all of my weapons: Black Hills, Silver and Golden Bear, Wolf, PMC, CCI, Winchester, Remington, Federal, Hornaday... Just depends on what I can find and the cost. Most of the ammo I buy is being stockpiled for SHTF scenarios, or if they just start yanking our chain and keeping ammo from us. I figure any ammo is better than no ammo.
But, I still want to make sure it works ok. That is why I ask the question.
When I go to the range, I usually just buy whatever they are selling at the range. Seems to work fine. My last trip with my 24" bbl Bushy yielded 1" sized holes with 30 rounds right on target at 100 yards. So, I guess the range ammo isn't bad. Heh. They usually sell Independence or PMC.
Thanks again.

Give us a report on the Wolf ammo please. I havent tryed the newer stuff in my ARs.
Actually Wolf 45ACP reloads quite normally with standard equipment. The pressure felt stroking the press is very nominal.
