I don't have a Taurus 1911-type pistol. I do have 1911 pistols by Colt and Springfield Armory, and though I have function fired them with .45+P for performance and accuracy, and though I presently carry .45+P ammo in them for CCW carry, I would refrain from a steady diet of +Ps on the range. Taurus my say different.

Reason I ask is because I am going to be carrying it when I'm up in the mountains hunting and fishing and the like just in case I run into a pisst off wolf or black bear and would like to have something in my gun thats going to pack some extra punch.

That should be fine. Like SNS said, just dont make that a regular round at the range.

I wholeheartedly agree with the other gentlemen, the +P stuff is ok to shoot sparingly, but for everyday shooting I would stick to standard pressure loads, and leave the +P's for personal defense.

That's what my .454 Casull is for. I think you are expecting a bit much for a .45 ACP.

Well being its my first handgun I will be carrying it so the extra punch is needed. Next year I will probably get something a bit bigger and probably a revolver, probably a judge as you can use and don't quote me on this but both .45LColt and .410 Shot Shells right?

You can use both in the judge with 45 colt rounds. I haven't seen a range report so I can only imagine what kind of groups it would throw.

If I were using a 1911 I'd probably want hardball ammo for anything bear sized. I'd feel more comfortable carrying my super redhawk in .44 mag.

You're probably right, although I think staggering the rounds Ball, JHP so on and so-forth but all +P might be ok.

I hate to go off topic too much, but this little darling right here would be the ultimate trail gun:

Ruger Redhawk®*Double Action*Revolver (KRH-45-4) Overview

I'd load her up with a 300 or 360 grain hardcast, and it'd be able to knock the snot out of any bear or wolf you might encounter.

Roger that Midas. Personally, I wouldn't mind carrying the full size Ruger Redhawk in blue or stainless with the 5 1/2" barrel as a trail gun.

Blued finish double action revolvers with 5 1/2" barrel length.

I don't know about a 45 cal handgun on black bear. I think a 45 jhp might just PO the bear. I'd back up the 45 with a Marlin Scout rifle in 45-70

You are talking Black Bear and not Grizzly, right? How big are the Blackies where you're going? Usually, those guys are under 500 lb.

If you make some noise while in the woods, you shouldn't even see one.

You'd be amazed, they are blackies and not grizz. As for makin noise in the woods its kinda hard not too but often times you're walkin in fresh snow or on a dampened dirt road where noise is very little to none. I see alot of this Winchester Ranger T-Series (Black Talon) for sale on Gunbroker. Is it any good? What would you guys/gals suggest?

Also I might add that if I was confronted with one it would most likely be running head on at me. What do you guys suggest for ammo for that situation?
