Someone on another forum just sold a scoped Saiga in 5.56 for $250. The same guy is trying to sell a PAR3 (converted to semi-auto) for $200.

Any Saiga will serve you well. I've all them all (except for the 30-06 version, drool) and have no complaints. They are the only rifle of their kind actually made in the AK factory. Not bad guns for the buck. My current Saiga is the 308 version with a 16" barrel.

-9mm Hi-point carbine
-Mossberg persuader in 12 guage
-Remington 870 with extended magazine and 20 inch barrel
-SKS
-Mosin Nagant
-S&W sigma in .40cal
Anything else you guys suggest?
Do you have a pistol or revolver already Bigandrich44? I don't know about how big the city you live in is, but I live in a relatively densely occupied area with big traffic choke points and few evacuation routes. If I could only pick one weapon to take along in my trek to my "safehouse", I would automatically choose a pistol first. Everything else would be secondary.
A rifle is not easily concealable and, if concealed, is not easily acquired. In a true evacuation situation (like when I have to leave here for an approaching hurricane), a rifle (especially something that the Zombies have labeled "assault rifle") slung over your shoulder is something that makes any/all law enforcement (firemen, FEMA workers, etc., etc.) pick you out of the crowd for forcible takedown.
If you already have a pistol, I suggest getting a carbine that shoots the same caliber as your pistol...either that or the shotgun.

Well, my first bet was the Mossberg, but if you already have two 12 gauges, unless it brought something else to the table (like an 8 round capacity) I would get a tool that fills a gap in your arsenal. Does anyone else on the ranch have guns in the other calibers (ammo sharing is big)? If you have a scoped rifle and a shotgun, a pistol caliber carbine would fit between the two (the Hi-Point or a .357 magnum Marlin could be useful).

Of course the correct answer would be to buy the Mosin Nagant rifle, and use the remaining money to put a short barrel on your 870! Two, two two guns in one!

I personally like the Sigma trigger because it is like a heavy revolver in DA mode (many years of shooting worn out hand-me-downs has made me impervious to bad triggers).

For 300.00, the SKS. Its a military heavy duty rifle. You can carry a lot of ammo easily and with a little practice reloading is fast.

if i read right, you've got a shotgun, you've got rifles.. i think either a semiauto pistol or semi auto carbine. such as one of your choices the hipoint carbine. im looking into getting one aswell for a similar reason and cheap ammo very easy to get, stockbpile, or reload. and its not a big long/bulky/heavy gun. great for CQC, or even a little distance with right optics.. and if you look around for a used one. you can get the rifle, red dot sight and enough ammo for range practice

I forgot to mention, I have an 870, just doesnt have the tube. I also keep an 1100 under the bed, once again completely stock.
If you already have two shotguns, why would you even consider getting a third? Or another gun, at all? What am I missing?

Use the $300 on a class, learning to run your 870 or 1100, whichever you prefer. Or at least on ammo.

Unless you just want to buy a new gun. Don't get me wrong, I do that too - just bought another .45 that I most certainly didn't need - but that's not prepping, it's just buying toys.

Then just buy more ammo. There isn't much need in having more firearms than you can carry.

12 ga. slugs are surprisingly accurate out to 100. I'd get one of the 12's, stoke it with 00, and put a side saddle on it full of slugs (maybe one round of bird as a slapper). Practice the select-a-slug drill and you're good to go.

I'd probably look to having a hi-cap pistol of some sort, but the $300 puts a damper on that. I have a 9mm Hi-Point carbine. It is surprisingly accurate and I use it to bust b@!!$ with the ERT team from my old job with their MP5s and HK UMP 40s. shooting the smg qual course with the hi-point. upsets them to no end that my fat @$$ can beat them wit a junk carbine.

+1! Either buy more ammo, or make sure you have a good semi-auto pistol to take with you.

The old-style Rugers (not the SR9) can be had brand new for not much more than that, and I'd take one of those all day, every day over the Stigma.

Here: Ruger P95 9mm Blue, w Rail 15 round for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $300.00

Still say a training class, though, and then ammo.

training > gear

I'd go with the handgun.

Its more portable, can be operated one handed and can be used better in confined situations like driving and shooting.....

People who go on and on about how the Sigma is junk forget its SUCH a Glock clone that the originals could exchange barrels.

Its just a better looking Glock with a better feeling grip.

If they had offered them to police departments for $139 each, I am betting it would have taken the duty weapon market by storm.
Thats Gaston Glocks secret of success. Underbid everybody else and charge the gullible civillians four times more to amortize your losses.

SKS, or any other medium power, readily availabe, semi-automatic rifle. I wouldn't mind the 10/22 like the other person suggested. A shotgun is good, but a little tough to dispatch anyone from anything other than close up. Even with slugs you are looking at a limited range. I can hit decent enough at 300 yards, standing, iron sights, with my SKS. Nothing to write home about, but nobody is going to be standing there shooting back at me if I'm first on the trigger.

Other viable options would be an FAL, AR15 or AR10 (I'm not a huge fan because of cost but they are more reliable than they once were and there is no end to the customization - and they are more accurate than the SKS), or even semi-auto hunting rifles like a BAR II or Remington 742.

Oh, and I forgot, you can take that SKS and run it over, roll it in sand, soak it in water, freeze it, heat it, and slap your mama with it and it will still shoot.

And even though it isn't the most accurate, I did put 5 shots in a 4 inch circle, standing, at 100 yards with mine, and can consistently hit in an 8 inch circle at 200 yards. That will put grub on your table where a shotty wouldn't do the trick, and it will take out a tango when the chips are down.

Oh, and it will punch completely through a metal desk and have enough left to tear soft targets up.

have to go with the 12ga. Persuader, great weapon. stay away from the sigma unless you have a lot of range time with it. Took me 8 mo to get used to the 12lb trigger. Shoots great if you know how. Mine just before the break I can hear a faint click and know the next oz of pressure will send it.
River
can't beat an hk though

Mossberg Persuader or the special purpose under tactical section. With the Ar style stock, it's short enough for the lady, long enough for you. Has the five round rack on the stock, drilled, tapped for scope.
Parkerized finish, with the optional heat sheild, and light holder, you are ready to Rock.

Use the two 12 ga you have, and buy a good semi auto pistol to go with them. I prefer 45 auto but then again I am an old soldier and know what those will do. Just a suggestion for the 12s alternate 00 and slug, with the first being 00 for the crowd clearing. DC cops ran that mix when I worked there in the 70s and it was effective especially with the 00 fired at concrete sidewalks. Larmus I did the same thing you did with a Para-ordnance P14-45 and my wife. Now I'm trying to convince her that I need another 45.

Forget this entire thread.

It starts and ends with the supremely viable .22.

Or the 870.

Or the Persuader.

Or the SKS.

Heck - let's face it. The only time you have too many guns is when you're trying to swim across a river.
