Ok, now we are geting some were. would you like to build this stand out of wood or metal. Metal is consirably more expensive and you need to have a welder to use. But it will be better and last much much longer.

If its worth doing, its worth doing right!
Walmart has a 17" ladder stand with shooting rail for $84. I would find it hard to justify to myself why to buy wood and build one rather than get one on the cheap. The $84 stand is metal, which should last longer. Sure it's Remington brand and they aren't really known for stands, but hey, it's $84! Plus it will be lighter, and more easily moved. I can't find it on their website, but I've seen it in the store. Cabela's has some single man ladder stands for under $100 as well.
As for camo'ing the stand, I just went into walmart, went back to their 'fabrics' section and there was about 5 different rolls of camo pattern. I went with a rip-stop camo pattern. It sort of like parachute material (water beads, doesn't soak in) and it tears straight. I bought 10 yards of it, I've camo'd 2 stands and have enough left to do another. I threw it over some bushes just last night to have a make shift ground blind for hunting off the edge of a soy bean field. The bottom line is, there are plenty of cheap ways to have a sturdy, moveable stand.
It may be slightly off topic, but my favorite ground blind on the cheap is...
Three T-posts
Three hog panels
make a triangle with the T-posts, wire or ziptie the hog panels to the T-posts...leaving one end loose so you can pull it back to get in. Use brush or cheap fabric weaved into the hog panels for concealment.
As for tree stands, it's usually cheaper to buy one, unless you have the scrap pipe and welder already. If that's the case, then just look at a buddys stand or on stand websites for a idea of how the bracing should work.
Wood lean-type stands are just asking for trouble, in a few years you could have a dangerous situation. For a free-standing tower stand, a basic four treated post base with a plywood box on top is as simple as it gets.

I was going to say go to WalMart and sporting goods store and look at metal Deer stands.
Because of the cost to build one out of wood.
Now listen up...Don't buy one that will put you up in the limbs of tree's.
To me 12' is maximum in height.
Also there are plenty of comfortable single seat stands available.
Also you want to buy one that's easy to move around by yourself.
This happens a lot, you put up a stand and then you see deer moveing way off over there, so haveing a light easy to handle stand makes it less of a chore to move it.
I did somthing stupid last year and that was buy a stand that had a bench seat for 2 people.
I put it together in my front yard and when I went to lean it up to a tree to check it out it was a handful !!! If the legs would of kicked out I'd of got hurt.
I can haul it to the woods on a lawn traylor and lean it against a tree but I'll have to leave it there.
So buy one you can balance and carry with one hand or on your back....A.H

LOL I guess that's why they make different size stands AH...I won't hardly buy one that isn't 20' tall.
Also AH, it's easier to set those big two-man stands if ya use a buddy or a truck to help. I reckon that's why they are a two-man stand...beacuse it takes two to put it up! My brother bought 4 of those stands from wall-mart last year, they went on clearance for 90 dollars and he bought all they had...works great if you're a *large* guy or are huntin' with a kid.

Guys
Has anyone bought outpost or tree stand plans from these guys if not ..would you..? Greenleaf Designs.com
^ I woudlnt buy plans period. If you're slightly mechanically inclined, you can just go to wal mart, cabelas, bass pro, gander mountain etc etc and look at the stands. Take a few pics if you need to. Then go home and duplicate it adding the features that you want!
