Army Staff Sgt. Nicky D. Bacon is certainly a man of faith. He sounds like the few Medal of Honor recipients that I had the pleasure to meet. All of them say much the same: “If I didn’t do it, somebody else would have,” or “Yes, I was scared but I knew I had to do something,” or “A lot of guys have done what I did but we’ll never know who they are,” or the most common, “Most of the guys who received this award died getting it.” These revered men are the most humble warriors you could ever come across. It made my heart leap when I read that Mr. Bacon had learned that the man he carried from the field, the man who he thought had died, had actually survived to become a physician who may in turn save Mr. Bacon from cancer. I will certainly pray that that happens.

An inspiring story. My only complaint is with the newshound who wrote it. He made the common mistake of referring to the Medal as the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Congress has nothing to do with the award; never has. The decision to award a MOH is made solely within the military, these days by the Awards Review Board. The Medal of Honor is presented in the name of the Congress, but that's all. The correct name for our highest award for military valor above and beyond the call of duty is the Medal of Honor, period. I do wish that the members of the Fourth Estate would get that right - or at least, that their fact-checkers would.

Agreed. I believe it was the Congress who “authorized” the Medal of Honor during the Civil War and the term "Congressional" was sometimes and unofficially used to describe its origin and avoid confusion with other awards of honor that were awarded by various volunteer militias through the various state governments. Of course, that is not necessary now since there is only one Medal of Honor. That is just my take on the confusion that still persists.
