Seeing as it was Sunday and the fact there was a National open Civilian/Military Service Rifle match on I decided to take my M14 (straight-pull) out for the day. Well the weather was beautiful, unusually so for Scotland with sunny skies and only a light cross wind of 10-15 mph so I made the 250 mile round trip. All matches were all shot from 200 & 300 yards and rifle-scopes, where permitted, were restricted to 8x power. Over the day I got through around 240 rounds of my oldest milsurp ball ammo and had a great time with the emphasis on shooting and taking part rather than being fiercely competitive however I surprised myself when I was presented with 4 trophies and was just one point off the top rifle for the day. Sheet..I must go back next year and try harder.
I got the "Falling Plates", "Service rifle Optical" (8x sights), "Service Rifle Rapid Fire" and "300 Metre Deliberate" (Iron Sights).
I must say that I reckon I did have a slight advantage with the Falling Plates over the Military guys 'cos on a couple of occasions the thump of the old 7.62 nato hitting the plate also knocked over the adjascent plate. You just "can't beat the cubes", especially in any kind of cross-win.
Enough self praise, didn't I do well for my first national open event?
Hope your week-end was as good as mine?
