I have a strange question that I can't find a place for,so I figured this is as close to handgun laws as I can find.In Michigan, any pellet gun is considered a firearm, and they take it one step further by classifying a pistol pellet gun exactly the same as any other handgun(which is funny because black powder pistols are not even considered firearms here),but,a .177 caliber pellet pistol is no different from a .357 or .45,and must be purchased through a pistol permit and registered, which leads me to my question:How in the world do you register a gun that does not have a serial number????But they require it here, how is this possible?I would like to have a pellet pistol, but got a .22 rimfire handgun instead of feeling like I would have to jump through hoops for only a pellet gun.
Your best bet is to drive to Ohio and buy one at a Gander Mountain, Fleet Farm, or Dunhams Sports. I have a Crosman 1377c and it's the second most powerful .177 caliber pistol you'll find out there. It usually costs about $65, and the next step up is an RWS Diana which would run you about $240. If you want a .22 air pistol, you're looking at a Benjamin which you may be able to purchase at Cabelas or a Bass Pro shop and that will run you around $115. I would also consider buying online, because you do not need a federal background check to buy one there and you can have it shipped directly to your house. The place to go for airguns online is Air guns, BB Guns, Pellet Guns and Air Rifles from Crosman, Gamo, Walther and Beeman - PyramydAir.com. Hope that helps, but your best bet is to drive to another state and buy one. The three you need to consider for hunting are Crosman 1377c, Crosman 1322(also known as the Benjamin .22), and the RWS Diana(most powerful, they may have a .22 version too). Hope that helps.
