Likely this has been covered ad nauseum (I did check), but I beg your indulgence.
My wife will be attending a upcoming Appleseed weekend workshop, and then I will 2 months later. For this we will be buying a Ruger 10/22. We wanted one anyway, but now we have an excuse. :^)
So, she really likes iron sites...I like optics. Since there is an effective range of 50-100yds, we don't need a whole lot. Also, I would kinda like to be a cheap bastard for this. (can I say cheap here?)
I am looking for opinions and recommendations for the following:
-A MUST - see-through optics mount
This one with regular rings night be a bit high, but great for a red dot.
Once again, since this is for 100yds or less, I don't need massive zoom and the exit optic can't cover the iron sights. I have been toying with the thought of a 2x red dot.
see if that link can help you for being cheap i normaly find really good deals their, it depends on what you want as for me i hate red dots, bsa, tasco and barska are all good brands for the price but definatly do not excpect nikon performance or the life of one. but still good scopes me on a 22 i like a 3x9-32 just me. i hate the tasco little 22 scope never every will advise anyone to get one of them. just my .02
Considering the general accuracy of the base model 10/22 being an average 2.5" group at 50 yards until you enhance it, I'd get a Center Point 3-9x40 for $60, or a 4-16x40 for $80.

since you stated your max effective range i would recommend a nikon prostaff.
its a little over $110 for the fixed 4x but when it comes to shooting and scopes you get what you pay for and you can use this scope for a lifetime and transfer it to other weapons .
otherwise any old scope would do.
Beware : The new Simmons co is Meade Optics which is a step down from the Simmons Co (Blount) of the 90's and early 2000's.
Bushnell still makes a good scope for the 1022 as does Mueller, Nikon and Intensity. I like 3X9X32AO
Here's my 2001 edition Simmons 1022T It's an outstanding value!
Attachment 25585 this is a centerpoint 4x16x40 scope on my 10/22 which i got at wallyworld for $65.00with tax it's rings are see thru
You might want to clarify that a bit...the Included Rings that come with a CP scope aren't see-thru...so didja use Leupold or Weavers??
For ANYONE who buys a Center Point Scope...do NOT use the Included rings!!!
They will cause you grief & "shooting around the Clock", as they use a double sided tape that tends to release it's sticky after you've been in the sun for a little while.
If you take the time to remove the tape & LAP the rings out properly, they will function properly...but it's far easier to just get a set of Weaver 49515 see-thru rings for $10 at Walmart
