Arisaka cleaning rod

hi all, got a type 99 rifle arisaka, with an original cleaning rod. The cleaning rod stays in, and the button release works, but is it suppose to screw into the stock of the gun? Or is it loose and the button that holds it in do all the work?
-thanks

I do not remember that these screwed into the stock.Just held in by the cleaning rod catch.Haven't owned one for quite awhile so it's hard to remember.

Actually there were both on the T-99. Early T-99's had the long rod held in by rod catch. The Mid War "Transitional" T-99's had a short rod that screwed in.
