It is going to be a rocky road

"If you are able to get out of debt, do it. If you need to scale down your lifestyle in order to be better prepared for difficult days, do it. If you don't have guns and ammo, buy them. If you have not prepared some sort of preserved food pantry, do it. If you don't have some kind of survival plan in place for you and your family, get one. If you are not physically fit, get in shape. If you are able to move to a more secure, out-of-harm's-way location, do it. (During any kind of financial or societal meltdown, urban areas will quickly turn into war zones. Can anyone say, "New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina"?) In other words, get your nose out of the boob tube, get your bottom off the easy chair, and get busy.

Am I worried or discouraged? Absolutely not! (But I am preparing.) The potential good that may result from all of the above is that perhaps God will protect and raise up a remnant of people who would be willing to rebuild a place where Natural Law is respected, constitutional government is revered, and where a ubiquitous, loathsome, overbearing federal government is far, far away. You know, like America's Founding Fathers did 233 years ago.

In the meantime, get ready. It's going to be a rocky road."

On a weekly basis, my wife and I continue to move forward in our efforts to be better prepared for potentially difficult days ahead...

...and, it will hopefully be enough to see us through.

How are your preparedness preparations coming along?

Those of us preparing now, store food and ammo...

...so we can feed our families then and also protect our families from those who think preparation is foolish now.

I'll classify that as a rhetorical question,...

Reads like a good start to a family preparedness plan, for whatever may come along,...

...and, from the choice of wording, maybe a tube of PH will assist you too?

It's wonderful how people so accurately identify themselves early on...

...because it helps to identify them out later:

The ones who'll be pounding on the proverbial door for access when the water is rising and/or seeking additional oil when their lamp runs dry...

...cheers, and enjoy the eat, drink and be merry while it lasts.

For those that don't know, Chuck Baldwin was the Presidential candidate for the Constitution Party.

I think the sentiments expressed in the quote are becoming more widespread.

6 months ago (though I supported 2nd amendment rights for others) I had no interest whatsoever in firearms. In fact, I had fairly strong convictions about not wanting anything to do with firearms personally.

Today I own a handgun and two rifles. I'm teaching my children to shoot and care for guns. I plan to buy several more guns in the coming months and become proficient in their use.

I have spent several thousand dollars preparing herb tinctures (long-lasting herb preparations) of the more exotic herbs I use in my practice and am learning as much as I can about local plant species that could be substituted for foreign ones. I am gathering and preparing local plants rather than purchasing them (to learn how, not to save money). I now have enough herb tincturesa and dried herbs to practice veterinary (or human?) medicine for about two years after the SHTF. Hopefully after two years things wil have settled down enough for me to move around freely and re-stock on medicinal plants.

We have an adequate food storage and have increased the size of our garden and planted fruit trees. We bought some milk goats and rabbits. We are getting a greenhouse and a woodstove. We have acquired camping gear should we have to leave our home for some reason. We are teaching our kids how to dry and can food.

Most importantly, we are making and strengthening friendships with people of good character that have good skills in our community.

Those who think a bug-out bag full of guns and ammo will save them won't last long. Those who's plan consists of nothing more than robbing those who did prepare will be exterminated like the roaches they are by well-armed and well-organized communities.

On the other hand, those who focus mainly on arms, ammo and the skills to use them that seek honest work providing security and defense for others will likely be welcomed with open arms into the prepared communities.

I suspect I'll look back on all this and wonder what all the fuss was about. In the mean time I'm training my children how to prepare. Lord knows what they may face.

Doc

Good work. If we can't restore democracy with ketchup all is truly lost.

Love the surprizes bit by the way, surprizes are always the best part.

What's the shelf life of MREs and where can you buy 'em?

No, there's nothing wrong with being ready for disaster, but don't go bat-sh*t crazy, either.

I'm not saying anyone that has posted so far is, in fact, I agree wholeheartedly with what everyone here is doing, but don't become the crazy bell ringer in NY with a cardboard sign.

Good post Doc, chance favors a prepared mind. I've been prepping for a long time, and people that used to scoff are asking questions. In rocky times they need to stay healthy, because Walgreen's may not be open. Been wanting to make some Heart tinctures, but not sure how to do the process for long storage.
