im going to start bird hunting and i was going to get a 20 gague shotgun since i will mostly be hunting grouse. my dad has a remington mohawk 48 but its a 12 gague and needs a barrel. can i put a 20 gague barrel on it or is it not interchangeable.
Good question. I know some 20ga's share the same reciever but maybe the inter -working have to be different for the 20 ga.
Hopefully someone like the Mooseman684 can answere this one...hink hink LOL

Definitely buy the 20ga, if you just try to put a 20 ga barrel on a 12ga, waaaay to many things can happen and they're all bad. Welcome to G&G, happy hunting, this is a great site with a lot of knowledgable ppl to help if you have questions.

Do not attempt changing barrels from one gauge to another. Too much could go wrong even if the 20 gauge barrel would attach to the 12 gauge receiver.
There are many quality 20 gauge shotguns on the new and used gun market. Find one that "fits" you in terms of weight, arm to stock, sight picture, trigger pull, point of balance, swing, and so forth. It will be worth every penny you spend and more when you get to the field.

It ain't so if you would like a very nice pumpaction shotgun that will cost a lot less than a barrel they want work.
I highly recomend a Pardner Pump shotgun. It will cost less than $200.00 and in many way it's similer to a Remington 870 with a lot of parts interchangeable.
I bought the 20ga. model and it shoots good and I have'nt had any problems at tall but to be honest I have'nt shot but 3 box's of different shells through it.
Try it you'll like it...A.H

i think i might just get a new barrel for it. a 12GA would be a little better and it would be a little cheaper to get the barrel. does anyone have a 28" barrel that has "mohawk 48" stamped on it. i tried corsons barrles but they dont have one.
I take it you mean the Rem.Mohawk 48.or m11-48.Barrels are hard to find but the last full choke 30" I bought was about $100..Only a 11-48bbl will fit as far as I know. The 11-87 wont work. They are also strictly 2 3/4" chamber. What is wrong with your barrel? If its just a dent or bent a good gunsmith could probably help.If sawed off, possibly you could have a poly choke installed.Tell Mooseman whats wrong and he might be able to advise you. ,,,sam.
Check out the rest of the gun as well. Since you stated that it has a big bulge in the barrel, other problems due to high pressure might be there. Be on the safe side and check the rest of it out as best as you can.
the rest of the gun is fine. just needs to be cleaned.
Any 11-48 would work.I don't know where I got the barrel, just have a notation it was 4100.Put Rem. 11-48 barrels on your search.I found some but the lowest price was $175.Also check with gunsmiths and possibly some gunstores.I have bought several barrels,(especially shotgun)from gunstores. ,,,sam.
