Seperated case in a Uberti 1873..

A pard had a 38 specisl case do a complete case seperation in his 1873 Uberti 357 mag. It left about 1/2 of the front end of the case in the chamber.
Anyone have any suggestions on getting it out?

Thanks,

Cat

thread tap of proper size, screwed or taped in fills brass and can be taped out to the rear and out. Have used this method on rifles with sucess in past.

luck

I agree with ^...
A 3/8 X 24 NF tap will just thread lightly in the .357 brass case without expanding the brass further and locking it in to the chamber and i would put some penetrating oil or mineral spirits in rear of the chamber , twist the tap by hand 3-4 turns and gently tap the tap nose/caseing with a cleaning rod from the Muzzle and out !
Another way is "Freeze spray" the cartridge case and a cleaning brush or bore snake from the muzzle will usually pull it out ...
Or Buy a .357 Broken shell extractor that is made for the job...
There are other ways that are more complicated but the above 3 ways are the best .

For really tight case seperations, pushing a lead slug down the muzzle will get it out. I had it happen with a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag. It was pushed up into the rifling about 1/2 inch. The broken case extractor wouldnt do it.

A lead bullet tapped carefully from the muzzle will also remove a stuck case. I had the same problem with a Marlin 44 mag carbine. the case was up into the rifling.
