I like the more pellets idea. I have 4 shot loaded in my shotgun. However, I know buck shot will do more damage, seen both used on yotes, and buck does drive deeper in. I just like more pellets on target.

My perspective is this:
I've never been restricted to shotgun only. So I've never been forced to make a shotgun act as much like a rifle as possible. So from that point of view, I've always seen a slug gun as a short range, fast follow up brush-buster. With that in mind, the sites have tended to matter more to me than the rifling. I can't really explain it, but I have always been unusually accurate with a smoothbore. And their configurations have tended to lean towards the tactical.
So my ideal slug gun is a pump shotgun with a short, smooth barrel and ghost ring sites, and either a standard curved grip buttstock or a solid p-grip + buttstock. My Mossberg 590 fits that description.
That being said, I do also have a rifled barrel Rem 870. It did give me greater accuracy at the bench, but that may have been due to the sites, which I would not trust as much if speed were a factor or if I were standing up.

Well, believe it or not, I plan on using bird, or um well, the box says duck shot. lol But I figure I've got some left from when I hunted with it before I converted it to SD, and I'm not just going to throw it out, so I may as well use it.
But the barrel I bought can also shoot slugs. I highly doubt I'll ever use it for SD, especially in my home, but just for shitz n giggles I'd like to see how it shoots slugs and I do plan on taking it with on my next trip to the range and would really like your input as to which slugs you'd suggest using.
I understand you might not want to for fear if I use it for SD and have to use it. But trust me, the same thing could happen if I were to use 00 buck? I pray the issue never arises with shotgun, rifle or handgun...
Just looking for suggestion/s for having some fun at the range is all.

This is hypothetical,as I never ran them over the chrony, but, since magnums use slower burn rate powder and the barrel is very short and mags were intended for longer barrels,I would use standard loads which develope their max in 24" and should give the same or better performance in an 18 1/2" barrel. And since barrel flip is terrible with short barrels,I would use lighter loads.1oz vs 1 1/4oz) If I were doing lots of shooting(this is from experience)I would think strongly about installing a heatshield. ,,,sam.
