Ten Man, I think you hit the nail on the head. The only reason I can think of would be if you want to locate a number of them strategically. Per Metronomes reference to "extra guns".

I can see where there may be some value in "geocache" practices for those who plan to "bug out" or go mobile.

But the thought of just burying a gun and ammo locally, instead of fighting to defend it's ownership, is particularly repulsive.

acually I have several old / bad guns to hand over. One is an AK47 that will blow brass apart in the chamber every 75 rnds. Its garbage except to hand over.

I have some American brand ammo. This stuff is damgerous to shot. Overpressure rounds plus every third round is a keyhole.

I keep the good stuff for when I really need it.
