Bury a gun and ammo
for 15 years "Back in the early 1990s the outlook for the nation in general and gun owners in particular seemed rather grim to many people. A few years earlier in 1986, Congress had banned civilians from owning newly manufactured machine guns. There was ever more strident talk of banning semi-automatic weapons or so called assault weapons. Many of us regarded a semi-automatic rifle as the foundation of a home defense battery. Many of us believed that more laws banning ever more types of guns were imminent. About that time I acquired a Ruger Ranch Rifle through a private sale. I decided to stash it away in a safe place just in case my worst fear was to materialize, another gun ban." Bury a gun and ammo for 15 years by Charles Wood Issue #115
I prefer to keep mine where I know they are, will be, and where I can get to them very quickly if need be. Having it in my possession does not mean it can be taken away from me, not necessarily anyway.

Really interesting article thanks! Could come in handy you never know? Seems he took some overkill precautions, but there is no such thing as overkill if everything turns out like it did in his case!

I like the live to fight as many battles as it takes to win philosophy of warfare myself. Stupid careless mistakes or fly out guns blazing with caution to the wind WILL end up with you pushing daiseys...

Not a bad idea if you have extra guns, but I haven't gotten to that point yet. I also lack any reliable place to bury anything. I would think more to the point of additional survival measures, such as cash or valuables, and perhaps some of those #10 cans of freeze dried food.
I'm honestly more concerned of a robbery; come home to find my place had been cleaned out. In such a case it would be prudent to keep things dispersed, but then short of stuffing things in the wall sockets, 600 sqare feet doesn't allow a lot of creativity.

Looks like an article that can be applied to all sorts of stuff if it can be fit into a pvc pipe. What would you recommend if you wanted to bury a small chest bigger than an ammo box?

A well sealed Coleman?

I'm inclined to agree that the time to bury them is the time to use them.
What's essential is that everyone be on the same page as to what that time is. The danger is either a premature disproportionate uncivilized response, or an overly delayed response that lets too many other people be neutralized. Essentially a chronological "divide and conquer."
Manufacturing prohibitions don't warrant the use of force, whereas universal confiscation by force would.
And to those who say "anyone who thinks that will happen is a dangerous nutjob", I say that if I don't have anything to worry about, neither do you, and we can all be happy.
