Found Out Today

That I have a virus inherited from the jungles of South America. Great !! Tell me something I don't know !! Why is it that the military is great on finding pre-existing conditions. What a duh !! I have known of this "foot fungus" for about 25 years. Thanks VA for the stark and timely analysis !! If any of you use VA, ask them for a current analysis of your condition. And if they give you the same old same old, demand a second opinion !!

that sucks. I hope some anti-viral treatment will fix ya up.

As far as the VA...well one more example of why we don't want socialized healthcare.

Anyway, my prayers go out to you.

Any chance this will ever clear up, now that the VA has "figured" out what the problem is?

Virus or fungus? Do you still have it, or it something you had and have gotten under control? I just wonder why they are telling you now -- are your toes rotting off or something?

Systemic implies that it is a deep internal condition, possibly able to spread around the body, as opposed to a superficial infection which is more or less on the surface. Did you ask them about the thing infecting other parts of your body?

Maybe since it came from the tropics, it's a good thing to live in Alaska. Go out and get some frostbite and see if that cures it.

Sorry to hear about the feet problem steve, I guess I got off easy - the only virus or infection I got in service was cured with a series of penicillin shots

OK, like stated above. They tell you, you have a viral foot fungus????

Fungus: any of a kingdom (Fungi) of saprophytic and parasitic spore-producing eukaryotic typically filamentous organisms formerly classified as plants that lack chlorophyll and include molds, rusts, mildews, smuts, mushrooms, and yeasts.

Virus: 2 a : the causative agent of an infectious disease b : any of a large group of submicroscopic infective agents that are regarded either as extremely simple microorganisms or as extremely complex molecules, that typically contain a protein coat surrounding an RNA or DNA core of genetic material but no semipermeable membrane, that are capable of growth and multiplication only in living cells, and that cause various important diseases in humans, lower animals, or plants; also : filterable virus c : a disease or illness caused by a virus.

I am just sorry you are suffering in da feets. There are some great antifungal meds that I hope you have tried. If that doesn't work...try soaking your feet in a mixture of minced garlic, limberger cheese and cat urine.

All I know is it got me in the crotch too so they built a culture and killed all the little bugs they grew and injected me with a whole bunch of dead bugs and after about 3mos of them, shazam! no more itching pain! Of course this was back in the seventys when doctors weren't all specialists.(there were some real doctors back then) ,,,sam.

I was told the Israelis had a cure for some of the jungle rot our guys got in VietNam. Supposed to have been better than anything from the States. The stuff I got showed up one day on my palm. My Dr treated it with a topical steroidal cream but it kept coming back. One day I showed it to my Oncologist/Dermatologist, who was treating my skin cancer. He told me to take off my boots. After looking at my feet. I was put on some pills. Whatever this was, it was inside of me. After the course of treatment, no more crud. But I look for it still today.
Best of luck to you.

My brother got the same crap from Thailand when he was in the army. I was lucky enough to come back from South America clean of fungus on my feet and other regions

Hope they get the crap taken care of for you, Steve. I came back with as bug that caused high fevers, at the most inopportune moments. It finally ran it's course, and left me alone. I've known quite a few fellers that brought the rot home, from Nam. Some were never able to get rid of it. I hope that's not the case with you!
