I am unsure as to its actual need. In the event of a dirty bomb, at what point is it too late to get rid of radioactivity? And it surely is expensive!!! I'll pass on this, but am interested in what others say. Thanks for posting this!

The older surplus rad detectors can be found easy enough, along with the powder to cover oneself when radioactive dust is on you. One thing I would suggest for an inexpensive solution to covering yourself would be to have the UK surplus DPM suits that have the charcoal layer in them, along with the rubber gloves and the rubber boot covers. These suits are dirt cheap and can be used as scent blocker hunting gear as well. I was able to pick up a hundred or so of these suits on ebay about two years back for around $300 total, and they are in a vacumm pack bag. Lastly, get a few masks to filter out the radioactive particles. Those little dust masks, IMO, are not cut out to stop this kind of garbage. Getting a few surplus Israeli masks with the water attachment is a real plus. It would seem a better kit could be had for much less money that would provide a much better range of treat protection.

It is more useful if you live in well-populated areas or close to well-populated areas because those areas would be the target of these bombs. It is good for everyone to prepare for dirty bombs but I'm not sure of the cost-benefit where I live in middle of nowhere USA.
