The Glorious Model 700

About two weeks ago me and my friend decided to go shooting. I took my M700 he took his A-Bolt. we got to our little range and set up to shot both of our rifles being in the same caliber 30-06. The only real difference was the price. mine was $477 His was $979. he got 1 inch groups at 100 yds and got 7/8 inch groups. he even took the 700 hundred away and refused to give it back till we left he liked it so much. we went through three kinds of ammo mine shot all three better than his did. he pretty much decided to give up the A-Bolt and get a BDL lol. Even the US military loves the 700. and most super accurate custom rifles are based on the 700 action. My question is how is the 700 so amazing. Why would you pay more when you can buy a rifle for Less than $500 at walmart that can outshoot a rifle that costs 3 times as much. and why don't more companies make a rifle as good as the 700 that is competitively priced. Even the US military loves the 700. I would like everyones honest opinion on this glorius firearm.

Because my A-Bolt will out shoot your Remington 700 and I did not pay 979 dollars for my A-Bolt. I love my 700's (after all I do have 3) but my A-Bolt consistently out shoot them all... BTW my A-Bolt is in 25/06

The 700 is ok, but for a classy, reliable, custom rifle, there are better actions.

I love my 700s, they are insanely smooth, and shoot very well if you put a quality stock on them and lighten the trigger.

I saw a 700 at a gunshow saturday in 7mm Rem Mag for $250 otd. I'm still regretting passing it up. It was a little rough. But for $250...

I've never owned one. I have a Model 673 which is based on the model 7 action. I like it a lot.

Only have Mauser, Win 70, and Rem 700 experience here. So far, I like the 700 best. I have the others for nostalgia but bring out the 700 every time I go shooting.

My 700 BDL stainless shoots .600" groups all day long. Obviously it's accurate enough for where I deer hunt.

I worked at a pawn shop for six years. When we got in a Remington 700 series rifle, they did not stick around long. Maybe even more telling was the fact that most people picked up their 700 rather than let it go after getting a loan.
The 700 series rifles are a good solid design. They work well and are out there used at a price real people can afford. ( At least in my neck of the woods ) Andy
