What are you tinking about using it for? That will help narrow it down.

I have a 223 and two 308s, all DPMS. Like them. The 223 is the more practical for potential self-defense use. The 308 will hunt or hit way far out. I was at the range shooting 600 yards today. Easy with the 308s.

The 223 is much lighter, depending on barrels. A 16" 223 is downright light, the 20" is very trim, and the 308 in 18" bull barrel is heavy. I add about 3# in the buttstock for recoil control and sight picture retention. The 18" DPMS 308 is about 14# and the 24" with bipod is almost 18#.

I like 223 and 308 calibers because they are common, well documented, and inexpensive. At a match, I can always count on someone else using them...

i am thnking to use it for c predator hunting and plinking i have the lr 308 ap4 taht i use for bear and elk. but its so expensive to shoot as much as me and my family like to. so i think a 223 will be far less expensive because my brother in law has one and its cheaper.

just depends on what you want & how much you want to spend, cuz the choices are almost endless. IMO get a 5.56 chambered barrel so you can shoot both calibers.
