we had about six of them out floating them back to the chesapeak bay bridge and what they were is huge floats kinda like a bobber except they were so big they wouldnt go under. The float would just clip on to any part of your line so you can vary your depth's and you also had a weight with an eel at the end. In other words if you know how a downrigger works this it was we were doing kinda except with out the downrigger it self.

Kinda what you use for ice-fishing. Use the bobber to mark the depth and not necessarily for a strike indicator.
