Well I know it's been a while since I told Arkansas Hunter I would post some pics of my M1 but here it is. It may not be the best looking, but it is mine.
It is a Springfield roverboy. Sorry I tried to post a clear enough pic but to no avail.
Hey dog, I picked it by trading an old Ruger Mini 14 for it. I guess the value of the Mini was around 600-650 with all that I had with it. About 12 mags and about $100
of ammo. I would rather have this rifle any day! I picked it up at Johns Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Kansas.
Does anyone know what the markings mean on top of the barrel? It has a flaming bomb like the springfield armory symbol on top. I guessed it to be a proof marking.
Thanks Joker. I haven't put it on a bench yet, but so far I have hit 1 liter bottles out to 75 yds. Not that that gives me much of an idea as to how it will group. lol
Thank you Frenchy, I have always wanted one. I loved seeing them in the movies, and knew my Grand Pa had used one in the Philippines, and my dad went through basic with one. You know i wish I could have one of those two. It would be awesome!
Well I shot it on Monday, I took Captain Winters advice and loaded up some Reloader 15 pushing 168 Match King bullets and went to a friends house. I started at 45 grains and went to 46.5 and the rifle loved the 45 and 45.5 strings. I could keep it in a group about the size of a 3 1/2 inch circle. With 3 out of 5 shots being all in an inch. The 46 and 46.5 strings were not so good. Those shot around 6 inch groups. All being 100 yards.
Please understand I am not a good iron sight shooter, and I also make no claims at being good with glass either. ok But the rifle honestly shot better than I was expecting. I was very happy.
I also worked up some loads for my other 30-06 and it was dang near a one hole group. Pretty good with a whippy pencil barrel. lol
Any way I thought I would post my results. I would have taken pics but dummy me I was so giddy to shoot when my friend said he would let me use his bench rest, I almost left my ammo I was in such a hurry! lol

Glad to hear she is a good shooter. Looks like you made a good deal for her too. I just bought my Garand this summer and I payed $700.00 from a private party. I replaced a beat up hand guard and missing liner and fixed a bent ejector rod and she is perfect now. There is no saying that is more true than the Garand is the Caddy of battle rifles!
Thanks Michael, After I had shot it I recognized I would like to probably replace the Clip-Follower and maybe the Bullet guide. Just because it seems a little loose. maybe I'm paranoid...lol

I have a 1953 Springfield,mint shape,shoots great.I only shoot M2 Ball 150 grain FMJ through mine,and I get consistent one inch groupings @ 100 yards.

It took me a bit to get familiar with the Garand. At first it looked a little intimidating with all of those moving parts but there are so many good web sights ful of info. After doing alot of reading I jumped in and started working on it until I got here into top operatiing condition. Enjoy!
She's sure a beaut! Is that an M1 sling? I have one that looks just like that. However, it came on my Finn 91/30 when I bought it a while back. Don't forget to sign it up for the roll call thread!!

Thank you Sir! It came on the rifle when I got it Colonel. The rifle looks nicely worn, Im not sure what kind of wood that it has on it. I doubt it is walnut....but Im no carpenter either. lol

Anybody who shoots a 4in group at 100yds with our eye site deserves a medal!
I had such a gas this, my first year with my Garand. Too bad my eyes couldnt
reach to that 150yd. You should be proud of your rifle and groups.
I cant imagine that was required as an infantry soldier back in the day.
