OK, so I went to the shop yesterday and in the case they have a couple of 5-shot mini revolvers. The little rascals were just too cool for words. Talk about the ultimately concealable weapon!
Anyway, they had one in .22lr and one in .22Mag
Oh, and I know .22anything is not really the most serious choice for personal defense. I have and will continue to acquire more appropriate tools for that. But the minis sure are an interesting way to fill a unique niche. And, most importantly, the little rascal felt great in my hand and in my pocket and made my heart go fast in the store. LOL
So my question is; is there any ballistic difference whatsoever between .22lr and .22 mag from a 1+ inch barrel? Anybody have any real numbers?
Seems a pity to start having to buy .22 mag when I have bricks and bricks of .22lr around unless there would be a significant difference in punch.
We are talking about the North American Arms Mini Revolvers right?
Excellent 'deep concealment' firearms, and while not the ideal of course, a great backup for your backup, heck, you could sew one into your underwear band and forget it was there!
Check their sight for the ballistics, and of course the .22 magnums come out on top, but not as much as you would expect. If the 1 7/8" magnum frame was on our drop list I would have one by now, I would like to see the new 'Earl' but I won't expect it in my borders

I keep a 10mm glock in my front office desk,a .40 XMD in my back office.I also keep an X26 Taser in each office. But in my front pocket I keep NAA .22 mag 5 shot revolver. With it, I'm armed at all times. (bathroom etc.) The mag is superior to the LR , you probably won't shoot it that much anyway. 22 Mag. shot shells really effective on snakes as well.
THANK YOU for the NAA site with chrono data from their teensy barrels. There's very little difference between 22 LR Stingers and .22 Mag in the same bullet weight. Certainly not enough to justify the ammo cost of the 22Mag or make one think there would be any difference in effectiveness.
You mean one of these little guys? I have mine in 22 lr and it packs quite a punch. I can hold this thing as tight as I can and it still jumps up feeling as though it is gonna fly out of my hand. Fun little guy and always gets a lot of looks at the range.
Some years back I had one of the those little ones in .22mag. I called New England Arms (about something, can't remember now) and I sent it in. Since this was on older one, they replaced just about everything but the frame! They even sent the old grips back. The customer service from there was excellent! To me, it's a good phone booth shoot-out gun, but it beats having nothing at all.
When I had one of these it was usually the magnum frame. For me, I found that placing my support ( left) thumb parallel on the backstrap, then gripped thumb and gun with my shooting hand, as a unit, it gave me a much more stable hold on the gun.Only trouble I ever had with the NAA's was the mainspring wanted to break with too much regularity.

Good Luck
I usually carry a gun to the bathroom, too; afraid I might s--t a wildcat, you see. Just kidding; reading your post reminded me of that old quip!
